Karma - just Karma

We travel at the moment in Sri Lanka and the Hotel we booked in Uppoveli had lovely pictures but was a bit to pricey. Anyway, for the last 3 days we like to have something special with a nice pool close to the beach.

Travel means always as well surprise 😳 in any direction. As we arrived at the expensive hotel, the was a big pool but it was really really dirty and even worse, next to the pool was an unfinished ruin of a 3 storey building which looks ugly.

The room itself was nice but all the
sourounding was just ugly and dirty.

So, we went directly into the next by hotels and asked for rooms. Some where fully booked but another one had a room for the next days. We booked as this was direct at the beach 🏝️ with a nice pool, friendly management and even better - just HALF price.

Means a no brainer.

Hidden surprise

After checking in, the manager gave us even a bigger room for the whole family. Plus this comes with a nice little fridge.

Yeah - this is a cool place might be great to have your local beer damn cold. 35 degrees need some cool liquid for inside the hot body.

But first we added all our fruits from the market to this cool place

As we came back to the room some hours later, it was time to look for the fruits 🍉 🍌 so I did a detailed look into that mini fridge.

There was even a freezer section for Ice and I opened that door. But wait, deep inside that section is something green. What’s that?

NO! No way!! A Beer!!!!

Look what I found. An ice cold beer for a Beerlover. Even better - no one from my family bought this, so someone else may forgot this here for enjoying me. Many thanks to whoever you are.

That calls for a Foto session

Together with my ice cold friend I went to the balcony and gave him the typical 35 degree of heat from Sri Lanka. Swating was his answer.

Here I am, sitting by the beach with a cold can of Carlsberg in my hand, and honestly, life can’t get much better than this.

Carlsberg Premium Pilsner let’s talk about it. The pour is pale gold with a nice, crisp fizz that whispers of refreshment before you even take a sip. The first taste? It’s light, crisp, and just a little bit grassy, with subtle hints of grainy malt and that signature European hop bite that’s never too bitter but always present. It’s smooth on the palate, super easy-drinking, and finishes clean, begging you to take another gulp while watching the waves roll in.

Now, let’s compare this to a Lion Lager Sri Lanka’s pride and my go-to for those humid island nights. Lion’s got more body, for sure.

It leans maltier, with a bready sweetness up front and a creamy mouthfeel that’s surprisingly full for a mainstream lager. There are traces of honey, maybe a mild toffee vibe, and it’s a touch heavier than the Carlsberg.

The hops? Much more restrained, so you don’t get that crisp snap at the end—just an easy, mellow finish.

If I want super easy refreshment after a swim or with spicy beach snacks, Carlsberg’s the move. It’s bright, not too filling, and makes you want another round. But when I want something a little richer, maybe to wind down in the evening or match with a proper rice and curry, Lion Lager brings a warmth and depth that’s pretty unbeatable.

So, Carlsberg vs Lion?

For me, it’s crisp Nordic cool up against hearty island comfort. Both are classics in their own right. Lucky for me, I don’t have to pick just one!

Have a Walk

Sure, after more than 2 weeks with only Lion beer, I had to celebrate the ice cold Carlsberg a bit more. So we went to the pool to have another shot.

But before my friend Carlsberg gets to hot, we relaxed by the pool at a nice chair for a refreshing.
