My journey on this subject has been rather radical. As a matter of fact, I remember hating short form content years ago, thinking it had very little value. Why? Well, it may have been that I oversimplified the whole thing. If it takes seconds to make, it must have no merit. But of course, I couldn't have been more wrong.

Truth is, what matters when it comes to social media is engagement. I think a lot of people know this, and for some reason it took a while for that message to really sink in. So here I am, not only accepting "defeat," so to speak, but possibly even helping.

For the sake of speaking the same language, I’ll refer to all short form content as Snaps, even though they go by different names across our various dapps. So, if you're a Waver (Ecency) or a Momenter (Liketu — is that a thing?), don’t worry, I'm not leaving you out of the conversation.

I thought I had seen, at some point, a standalone Snap app somewhere. Maybe it existed, but I can’t seem to find any trace of it now. That said, because of the time I’ve spent building the POS lately, I’ve been digging into the books, so to speak. I’ve turned my new laptop, a gift from my older brother Jose, into my little development station. I think that makes him happy, though @joseamenac is not exactly shy about his feelings.

At any rate, I’m vibe coding my way into something special. Asking Grok, ChatGPT, and yes, my brother, as many questions as I can to build something that works. Lucky for me, for us, really, Ecency did the right thing and open sourced their code for the world to build on. (Side note, seems to me all DHF-sponsored software should be open source, but that’s a hot topic for another day.)

So what’s the plan here? I’m going to ask for a little direction, because I want to be fair to the community I love. I’m putting in a lot of work on this, of course. As some of you already know, I get obsessed sometimes, a bug, not a feature, but then again, that’s how my brain is wired. I may burn myself out now and then, but I’ve also been able to finish things because of this particular brain malfunction. That said, I’m trying to be fair to myself too.

I’m thinking of doing this in a few different ways, but I’d love to hear your input.

I would, of course, release the app and make it open source. I’m making it a point to add as many comments as possible, to make it easy for someone to improve or build on it.

But... how do I pay myself for the work?

Beneficiaries

Would it be fair to add a small percentage for beneficiaries? I know most people recoil at anything that smells like a tax, but it would help keep the lights on.

If I went this route, it’d be a tiny nibble, maybe 3 percent or so. That’s hardly noticeable, I think, but over time, especially if we “make it” , it could become a fair way to value my time.

DHF?

This one I like the least. I feel like most people would see a proposal from me and laugh it off. Honestly, there's a lot of politics involved, and I’m trying to stay sane, so this idea doesn’t really attract me.

Has there ever even been a flash proposal for, let’s say, 1000 HBD that actually passed? Maybe there has, but I haven’t seen it.

Just Post Updates

Probably the path with the least resistance. Simply work on it, add features, clean it up, get it working with inLeo (not there yet), and Liketu (haven’t even looked under the hood there). Then post about the progress, and people can vote to support the effort.

That could work too.

Conclush

I’m doing it, guys. I don’t want to promise it’ll be amazing at first, but maybe in a week or so — if I don’t drive my brother or myself mad — I’ll have something people can test drive. Maybe even earlier, actually. I did stock up on two bags of coffee yesterday, and I fully intend to hit it hard this week.

Why stare at charts and wonder why price action is weak when you could be out here making something, right?

Mi camino en este tema ha sido bastante radical. De hecho, recuerdo que hace años odiaba el contenido de formato corto, pensaba que tenía muy poco valor. ¿Por qué? Bueno, puede que haya simplificado demasiado la cosa. Si toma segundos hacerlo, entonces no tiene mérito. Pero claro, no podría haber estado más equivocado.

Creo que mucha gente ya lo sabe, y por alguna razón me tomó un buen tiempo que ese mensaje se quedara bien grabado en la cabeza. Así que aquí estoy, no solo aceptando la "derrota", por decirlo así, sino incluso ayudando.

Para hablar el mismo idioma, me voy a referir a todo el contenido corto como Snaps, aunque en nuestras distintas dapps tengan otros nombres. Así que si eres un Waver (Ecency) o un Momenter (Liketu — ¿eso existe?), tranquilo, no te estoy dejando fuera de la conversación.

Me parece que en algún momento vi una app independiente solo para Snaps. Tal vez existió, pero no logro encontrar ni rastro de ella ahora. Estoy pensando hacerlo de varias maneras, pero me encantaría leer lo que ustedes piensan.

Obviamente, voy a liberar la app y la haré de código abierto. Estoy poniendo mucho esfuerzo en comentar bien todo, para que cualquier persona pueda mejorarla o construir sobre ella.

¿Sería justo agregar un pequeño porcentaje para beneficiarios? Sé que mucha gente se encoge al escuchar algo que suene remotamente a impuesto, pero esto ayudaría mucho a mantener las luces encendidas.

Si me voy por esta vía, sería un mordisco chiquito, tal vez un 3 por ciento. Algo que casi ni se siente, creo yo, pero que con el tiempo, más aún si esto despega, podría convertirse en una forma justa de valorar mi tiempo.

¿DHF?

Esta opción es la que menos me gusta. Siento que si propongo algo, muchos simplemente se van a reír. Para ser honesto, hay mucha política de por medio, y yo intento mantener la cordura, así que esta idea no me atrae demasiado.

¿Alguna vez ha pasado una propuesta flash de, digamos, 1000 HBD? Tal vez sí, pero yo no lo he visto.

Probablemente el camino con menos fricción. Simplemente trabajo en esto, agrego funciones, lo limpio, lo hago funcionar con inLeo (aún no lo hace), y con Liketu (ni siquiera he mirado qué hay ahí). Entonces hago publicaciones sobre el progreso, y la gente puede apoyar votando esos posts.
