Painted Books of Humor and Protest

avatar

Here are a few homemade books I made this week and last. They’re painted on signatures and sewed together with a chain stitch. It’s borderline too long of a process for me, involving being hunched over for a long period of time. I have the will but not the shoulder stamina. The following are the titles and synopsis of each:

Free Art Frees Art —Captures the essence of the Free Art Frees Art movement inspired by the efforts of @jompiy and Black Ivory. A silver U.S. dollar will be attached on the back.

Abstract Advertism —Advertising not advertising, a conceptual art book.

Looking Out My Window on a Snowing Evening —On New Year’s Eve I sat in the chair looking out my window, and saw my conica Alberta spruce frowning at me.

Venezuela or Bust! —Paritten (paint-written) with rogue, terrorist U.S. government in mind. We are slaves to the capitalist system, eating Cheerios and buying cars.

Thanks for having a look! It’s dry round these parts in January. And I’m getting older. Oceans of lotions make the face feel good, but there ain’t no magical oil that can plump the human raisin.

I love these books that you and Edgeworth are making. Brilliant! How about sending me the Free Art one? I actually could take you and Ruth out to dinner! Or the Advert. Or the Kidnap! I'd take any of those four but the snow, I have plenty of that stuff here myself. Not four feet all at once thankfully! Whichever one you want to part with. And I don't need it right now, or even ever, should you want your library to have it.

You got it! A pleasure. Stay tuned:)
The wonderful art news is that I’m still alive, and can make many more! Thank you for the interest!

They are really wonderful. Do you think Edgeworth could send me one of his? I've never mailed anything overseas should I want to send him some of my artfulness back.

Before the tariffs, he was a regular mailer to the U.S. It costs so much to mail now. When he gets back from Thailand, we’ll be doing an exchange. Maybe then, @jompiy will toss in something for you and I can relay the prize! :)
