🇺🇸 ~ I found this photo from 2008, one of those rare occasions when I attended a manga/anime event without cosplaying, when I was already an active “competitive cosplayer” and it was customary to see me registered in the individual category contest at “Festivam.”
I think this was the first event in a long time where I just showed up at a convention to have a good time with my group of otaku friends, with no extra plans, just walking around and enjoying the stage schedule.
For many years, “Festivam” was the largest manga and anime organization and event in the state of Zulia. I have very fond memories not only of that time but also of its organizer and staff.
I remember that many friends and acquaintances were surprised to see me dressed like this at the convention. The most repeated question that day was: “Where's your cosplay?”

🇪🇸 ~ Encontré esta foto del 2009, una de esas raras ocasiones en que asistía a un evento manganime sin Cosplay, cuando ya era una "cosplayer competitiva" activa y era costumbre verme inscrita en el concurso de categoría individual de "Festivam".Creo que este fue el primer evento después de mucho tiempo en que solo me aparecía en una convención para pasarla bien con mi grupo de amigos otaku, sin planes extra, solo pasear y disfrutar del cronograma en tarima.
¡Y ES MOMENTO PARA ALGO DE HISTORIA OTAKU VENEZOLANA! "Festivam" fue por muchos años la organización y evento manganime más grande del Estado Zulia, tengo recuerdos muy bonitos no solo de esa época sino de su organizador y staff.
Para esta convención recuerdo que muchos amigos y conocidos se extrañaron al verme vestida así, la pregunta mas repetida de ese día fue: "¿Y donde esta tu Cosplay?"
Unfortunately, and as seems to be the cycle of some organizations, many things happen and they don't always handle me in the best way or have a happy ending. Manga and anime events at that time enjoyed a trial period in the public eye, then had their “prime,” and after that, two things happened:
✦ They managed to establish themselves and developed the ability to manage themselves healthily and finance themselves legally.
✦ Poor management, conflicts of interest among their human resources, and unbacked promises led the projects to an end that was never formally announced.
During and after the “Festivam” era, there were many conventions, large and small, but this name has a place in my memory that cannot be erased, because even though it wasn't perfect and its end had to do with something quite serious that damaged the history of national events (long beta), its organization always treated Cosplayers well, at a time when even the otaku audience itself could openly mock you and bully you for wearing a Cosplay.

Volviendo al tema de la convención y curiosidades de nuestra historia Otaku en el estado: Lamentablemente y parece el ciclo de algunas organizaciones, muchas cosas suceden y no siempre me manejan de la mejor manera o tienen un final feliz. Los eventos manganime en esa época gozaban de un periodo de prueba ante la opinión del público, luego tenían su "prime", y después de eso sucedía dos cosas:
✦ Lograban establecerse y desarrollaban la capacidad de auto-gestionarse saludablemente y auto-financiarse de forma lícita.
✦ La mala gestión, los conflictos de intereses entre su recurso humano, y las promesas sin respaldo conducían los proyectos a un final que nunca se anunciaba formalmente.
Durante y después de la época de "Festivam" hubo muchas convenciones, grandes y pequeñas, pero este nombre tiene un lugar que no se borra en mi memoria, porque aunque no era perfecto y su final tuvo que ver con algo bastante serio que perjudicó la historia de los eventos nacionales (long beta), su organización siempre trato bien a los Cosplayers, en una época donde incluso el mismo público otaku podía burlarse abiertamente de ti y hacerte bullying por llevar un Cosplay.
Hoy sigue vigente la frase "no todo es negro o blanco".

Que lindos eventos, en Venezuela creo que solo los llevan a cabo en Caracas. Me alegra que la hayas pasado muy bien con amigos que comparten tu misma afición.
Hola Carmen! Actualmente en muchos estados del pais hay eventos manganime, de comic, de kpop y de cultura asiática con relativa frecuencia. En Caracas tenemos la Caracas Comic Con, que es como el más icónico de Venezuela, y el que mas admiro, pero también existen otros 😊 ❤️
