Flagler Beach Pier - Before repairs - Drone video view
I made another trip to Flagler Beach Pier with the Drone this past weekend. They are currently planning to tear down the Pier that was damaged years ago in a Hurricane and replace it with a brand new pier. (Scroll down for the videos).
You can see the construction crane just waiting to get started. The project was supposed to start last week, but then put on hold for some Turtle nests that appeared. They will now be on hold for the next few weeks waiting for the turtle eggs to hatch and escape to sea.
Meanwhile, some great photo opportunities. I just love that the beach is so close and easy to visit. I hope you enjoy these half as much as I did taking them.
A nice closeup of the Sign on top of the Pier.
Here's one of my first shots, you can see the construction crane on the left side.
A little different view of the pier than you get from the shore.
This is the new Compass Margaritaville hotel and restaurant that just opened last month. It's just a block off the beach and a great view from the terrace bar on the roof! Fantastic food and atmosphere.
This is more my area of beach, away from the others walking for shells, shark teeth, or other treasures.
It's also known for it's surfing. Not the big giant waves you see on TV, but generally some 2-4 footers are common with sometimes larger from storms and such.
Better shot of the Hotel.
Just North of the Pier. A pleasant quiet beach area, the majority of surfers are on the break to the south.
And of course, what's a drone photo shoot without some video?
Here's a nice video of the pier.
And for the really adventureous, here is a link to the 360 shot from the drone where you can move the mouse and look all around the area. I don't think PeakD can support 360 shots yet, so you'll have to visit the skypixel link below.

Oh wow, that damage is quite extensive. It's funny how it's the only pier for what seems like miles. It makes you wonder why they decided to put one right there.
Good access and Hwy A1A being right there I suppose. Hwy 100 joins right there at the pier. Daytona is a few miles down. Could easily drive it if the sand was hard and packed like it is at Daytona.
Okay then, I guess that makes sense!
Very nice shots, how comes the beach is so empty?
I see waves are quite strong there
Daytona is the popular tourist beach only a few miles down, and where most of the crowds and hotels are. This one is almost always quiet like this unless there is a special event. These were taken late morning after I already had my fill of Body Boarding in the morning.
Great views, thank you for sharing!
epa epa epa!!! Why don't I see you bathing? Hehe
Well, I was there surfing a bit just before taking these. Then able to change into nice dry beach poncho for the flying and pics. I don't often take the selfies much like yours, but actually did for this one.
Hola!
Jajaja nice nice jajaja
😁
Oh man these are awesome shots! Makes me want to get the drone out and start taking shots!
That pier does look a little worse for wear and I am wondering why we don't have them up here on our beaches. Admirable they are postponing a construction project to preserve endangered life. Seems the environment is increasingly put on the back burner in favor of commerce and construction progress these days.
I have to click through to the 360 view for a more immersive experience! Would be great if PeakD could support that!
Yes, it took a lot of damage a few years ago in Hurricane, and has been closed for at least 3 years that I know of. It will be very nice to have access to it next year if all goes as planned! There's at least 3-4 varieties of sea turtles that next here, and it's great to see them getting protection. I would think they could have just moved them without that much effort, but not an expert on it.
