Thoughts
I have a theory, I am of the opinion that the more technological advance we become, the more the earth deteriorates. It's like a chain reaction because what affects one, affects all. Thus, for every groundbreaking scientific discovery, the earth tilts gradually into oblivion.
One theory that I have subscribed to in recent times is that, for every time the earth gets exploited in the name of industrial revolution or globalization, nature fights back and the price?? Our health, our existence and ultimately, our lives.
Sometimes, I would ask, is the earth truly meant for technological advancement? I mean, it is evident that as much as technological advancement has caused us great ease and improvement with lifestyle, it has also caused us a lot of environmental damage. This we see evident in global warming and other natural disasters happening in highly industrialized areas.
The other day at the city in discord, someone complained about being sick and as expected, we all became concerned. I asked him what was wrong and he said that he got sick from all that smoke. At first we got confused because we never tagged him for a smoker. To clear the confusion, we asked him if he smokes and he said no, it's fog because he lives in the most polluted city.
The moment he said polluted city, my mind went to industrialization and I asked him if he lived in an industrialized area, he said no. He further responded that the city is just overly populated.
I wondered what overpopulation got to do with smoke till he pointed out the root cause to be carbon emission from fuel consumption and then traffic. It immediately made sense but then with industrial revolution, technological advancement becomes the order of the day such that, the more harm we detect in our inventions, the more innovative we become. This prompted me to ask about electric cars and he responded they got just 2% usage.
One major thing that I have noticed and come to realize with the industrial revolution is that for every technological improvement to cushion the adverse effect of initial inventions, the third world countries suffer as they are being used as dump sites.
What do I mean by the above assertion? One time, a friend told me how he planned on shipping his car that runs on petrol to Nigeria so that he can use it here. According to him, where he resides abroad, the government has given an ultimatum to all residents to return their cars that run on petrol and replace it with electric cars.
Instead of my friend doing the needful, he wants a win-win situation. One where he gets to still keep his old car while he enjoys the new one and what is the best place to store and make good use of it? Nigeria. A place where the usage of petrol cars are still very much in vogue.
That is just one out of many Africans abroad who have turned the process to a money making venture by exporting these petrol cars and selling them in their various countries.
When it comes to the industrial revolution, we do not have active governing laws in developing countries. As the developed world innovates to improve their lifestyle, the least developed receives all its negative externalities because there are no check mating governing bodies and even if there are, it's been greatly compromised.

This is very well written!
I would say that I think it's both technology and capitalism. We could create rules/laws/social protest against pollution but because companies want to make the most money possible, they do everything they can to prevent or ignore rules.
Africa could potentially leap-frog other more developed countries by investing in cheap renewable projects and EVs, completely avoiding the very expensive infrastructure needed for gas or coal or whatever, but because people/companies can profit off their old cars, it makes it very difficult.
The greed of companies and business men will be the death of us, that's just the long run effect. Then the problem with Africa is always wanting to model after developed economies, we do not have the same structure. I share in your opinion too, we should make do with what we have and develop gradually at our own pace.
you're right, Nigeria is always their dumping place and it's so bad because it affects us in one way or the other. We need the government to always check everything coming into Nigeria, but as you said even if there is they actually are not bothered because they always get something in return
It's all business for them at our expense
Exactly, you get the point.
Yeah, we only hope that things get better.
Yea, we do
