The Art of Hollow Knight

Hello and welcome back to my blog!

The Hollow Knight community is eagerly awaiting the release of the new game, Silksong. All things point to a release of the game this year, but there is still no release date given by Team Cherry. While waiting for it, I revisit Hollow Knight just to bask in the beauty of the game. I have installed mods that allowed me to hide HUD and/or the knight himself so I can capture some nice shots from the world of Hallownest.

I have shared a few already, and now I have decided to increase the size of this wallpaper folder. I will share some of them with you too.

I can zoom in with this mod so I can focus on specific elements. For the fans of the game, do you recognise the above location? I will just say it is related to a spell.

The next location is one of my favourite places in the game, the Resting Ground. Love the ambience and music here. This place is full of graves of the lost tribe or moths and gives you the sense that something very tragic has happened here.

It is only here that we find a lot more info about the game and the sacrifice the three Dreamers made. I love the way the background elements make a nice frame for these three statues. Such perfect composition.

A secret room behind a waterfall leads you to a place with big moth statues. Striking the left one with your dream nail teleports you to another hidden room with names of some of the backers of the game, with a custom message.

It is well hidden and only a small percentage of players find it on their own.

Another place that is less frequently visited by me is the Godhome, where you fight a lot of bosses back to back. I love the journey of the knight, from defeating some lowly bugs to challenging the Gods. This game has it all.

The fact that every zone can be visually recognised with unique elements, lighting, background or foreground elements is a genius in world-building.

You can easily know which shot came from which area of the game if you have played the game enough.

Ancient Basin have these scrolls and knowledge boards, while the Greenpath is full of greenery with mossy bugs. Crystal Peaks have a lot of glowing pink crystals and crystallised shells of dead bugs and so on.

There are so many interesting characters and NPCs in every corner of the kingdom. Even backtracking doesn't feel annoying, and believe me, you are going to backtrack a lot. With each new ability, we get many new pathways that become accessible.

These developers put so much thought and energy into developing each part of the game uniquely. It seems they ran out of colours and went greyscale for the Palace lol. This made this place quite special, and it is one of the most challenging parts of the gameplay too.

They must be like if the players are suffering from the challenging gameplay, at least let them enjoy the beautiful levels and have a banger OST to go with it.

The City of Tears is the capital of this long-lost kingdom, but the corpses came back to life, and their minds are plagued with corruption as they return to their basic instincts of protecting the city.

So much to enjoy from this beautiful game. A lot of detailed hand-drawn work is done. I have heard that they drew the artwork from hands, then took pictures with their phones and fixed them using Photoshop before importing them to the game engine. That's what I call a very hands-on approach. LOL

Until next shot...

There's no doubt this game's 2D art and illustrations are truly beautiful. It's beautifully done, and the neutral, sober color palette gives the game a truly spectacular look.

Never played this game before. This game looks kind of magical type. The environment is dark and kind of scary. After reading your post, I went to my gaming server and downloaded it. I am going to give it a try.

Btw, where do I find the mod file to hide the HUD???

Backgrounds look spectacular. A bit like a dark fairy tail. Also character designs for some reason reminds me of manga. Still I am not sure if I would enjoy this game. From what I heard about it combat is very hard. So maybe I would rage quit. 😛

The later part can be difficult, especially if you go for every boss fight. But there are multiple endings and the first one (which I got at my first attempt) is not hard.
