Out of the Darkness

My neighbour Dave shared another whisky with me. We had just set up our swimming pool. We have to lay out some sheets and unfold the pool before filling it up. That takes a couple of days of running the hose. We also had to haul out the heavy filter pump and ladder. Dave said he had a new bottle he had not opened.

Darkness

Well first I got out my Glenmorangie and my whisky glasses so we could have a shot of that first. This was nice drunk straight.

Glenmorangie

Apparently this sort of measure might be referred to as a 'damp glass' in Ireland, i.e. they like a large on.

Glass

He got the Darkness (not related to the band of that name as far as I know) on a trip to Scotland. This is not a cheap bottle, but then it is very nice.

Dark side of the bottle

It had quite a hit to it, so we added some water to make it much smoother and very nice it was too. Apparently it is matured in small sherry barrels called octaves. I am no good at describing tastes, so you will have to search out reviews by others. I just know what I like.

It is always nicer to drink with a friend and we can find lots of moments to celebrate.

Dunking

We have a tradition that my son is first to get in the pool each year. He did that when he got home from his job at the swimming pool. He was not impressed by the temperature. He and his girlfriend had a swim this last weekend, but said it was still cold. It takes a while to warm up and given the temperature has dropped today I will wait until I get in. I do look forward to it.

Cheers!

I need to find a way to track when new posts are made in the whisky community. This sounds like a really good one. I met a guy the other weekend who is big into bourbon. He said man, if I knew you were coming I would have brought so many for you to try! Those types of people are good people! 😃

I am playing with Ecency Decks as a way to keep track of stuff. You can have multiple decks, so one could be communities you want to monitor. Getting alerts for new posts would be nice.

Good people share what they enjoy and you can easily do that with drinks. Drinking alone is less fun.

It will be a little cold for a swim right now. I'd love to have a pool..
Maybe one day.
Do you cover it up when not in use to keep it clean?

We have a cover to keep leaves and stuff out. It stays pretty clean over the summer. The hard part is just getting in as even on a hot day the water can feel cold initially. I know cold water swimming is popular, but you have to get used to it.

I love it.. I'm not keen on those pee warm swimming pools 🤣
you can always go in with a layer, t-shirt or something if it's too nippy

We’ve got a paddling pool which the kids loved last summer. The temperatures this year are way more comfortable for most people!

If it gets to 40C again we will be really glad of the pool. That much water takes a long time to warm up.

The whiskey somehow brought back memories of Falco. We will head to the pool Friday, weather permitting.

You're welcome. I love some of Falco's tunes too. He was a great artist.
