Mexican Murals - Coastal Life at Casa Antonio [CCC's Street Art Contest #276]

Sure, I may be beating the drums of the competition, but hey, they kinda deserve it. At least for the mural they added next to their entrance of their guest house (hotel, hostel, posada, rooms or campsites for rent, etc.) If you want to know, please do your own research. They are called Casa Antonio in Mazunte, and I'm sure they are also cashing in on the accommodation bonanza this town is big on. A simple search will reveal what's to be found behind this wall, as for this post, I am more interested in the mural painted on it.

It's typically local... almost stereotypically so! An impressive ocean scene with clouds and the setting sun dipping everything in a romantic purplish light. The accompanying flora and fauna are well placed, yet not the most defining features of this place. Sure, there are pelicans, that is, I've seen them before, but compared to other birds, are less typical. The two coconut trees flanking the mural are of course everywhere, as you can see them growing on the place's premises too. But the cacti? Clearly the nopal (prickly pear) and the agave can be found literally anywhere in Mexico, the tall saguaro seen on the right side of this mural, only grow in the Sonoran desert. Though yes, there are other similar cacti in Oaxaca, even if the coast is not their favorite place. Finally, the fisherman... is obviously ubiquitous wherever there are fish to be caught.

This mural was painted by Annia Barraza, a seemingly talented multidisciplinal artist. This post is also part of the weekly CCC's Street Art Contest, where I am posting again after a long pause. To see my previous entries to that contest, check out my long collection of Mexican Murals.

Very nice mural. Perhaps stereotypical, but you have to attract tourists somehow... they expect a certain "Mexican" standard 😀 Thanks for sharing these pics on The StreetArt Community.

Have a great week

That's right, this image says "quiet, relaxed, tranquil, and tropical" in many more ways than a thousand words ever could. Plus, I love the tone of the colors: all warm, soft, and smooth.
