Depression and anxiety — how to overcome these biblically (Part 1 of 3) | The Old Path

‎We live in an era where believers walk in the joy of God's salvation yet they are dying in depression. In this teaching, brother Eli shared some deep insight about Christians living as faithful servants of God yet they do not suffer depression.

‎In the lesson we understand that Faith is the tool every believer uses to overcome all depression and anxieties in life, this can be seen in the book of Philippians chapter 4 verses 6 and 7.

Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God. And God’s peace [shall be yours, that tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace] which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.source

‎Furthermore, in the lesson brother Eli highlighted a story told by the Lord Jesus Christ, about a poor man, a beggar named Lazarus who experienced all manner of hardship his short life. He lived a life of anxiety all around him, he did not have anything, nothing to eat, no money, no house of his own, there is no home for him, Etc. But when see the Book of Luke, brother Eli noted that there was a certain beggar named Lazarus which was laid at his gate, full of sores, and desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table.

‎Moreso, in the scripture dogs came and licked his sores and it came to pass that the beggar died and was carried by the Angels into Abraham's bosom, meanwhile the rich man also died and was buried. Before going further, we learned that both the rich and poor will certainly die one day, even the educated and illiterate will die also. Meaning that whatever prestige we had on earth will not matter when we all die.

‎This issue of dead is part of the will of God as seen in the book of Hebrews "as it is appointed unto man once to die but after this the judgment"; there is no reincarnation. Maybe Lazarus knowing this did not mind all anxieties in life, he did not complain; Lazarus lived his given life on Earth as a beggar, he did not die a millionaire, there is no record that he died with sores or died a beggar, in the teaching of brother Eli, we understand that we are better off than Lazarus; what we need is faith.

‎Lazarus believed in God. Lazarus had faith that's why when he died he was taken by the Angels into Abraham's bosom. What does that mean? He will have eternal life like the thief in the cross which suffered with our Lord Jesus Christ.

‎In conclusion, our story does not end here. If we are worried about dying, then depression will come but if you are preparing to die then it will not be very hard to accept that because everyone will die. Our Lord Jesus Christ died at a young age yet He fulfilled His days on earth which is the essence of mankind.
