What makes a true disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ? (Part 2 of 2) | The Old Path

Becoming a disciple of Jesus Christ demand an understanding of who a disciple is and what Jesus expects from them. In the introduction of Brother Eli’s teaching, he shared an insight of who a disciple is – he/she must learn the teachings of Christ and put them into practice. The essence of this article to enlighten believers on what we are to do as disciples of Jesus.

A true disciple of Jesus are those who are seen to do what Jesus says, this can be seen in Luke chapter 6 verse 46.

And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
In the book of Matthew chapter 10 verse 1, “And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease”

From verse 2, the book of Matthew listed the twelve disciples of Jesus who were both apostles and followers of Jesus. From Brother Eli teaching, he further explained that apostles are disciples, but not all disciples are apostles. As seen Luke chapter 6 verse 13,

And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles;

From the scripture above, we see that there are other disciples from whom He chose the twelve that He will later call apostles. So, I can be called a disciple because I'm following what the Lord Jesus Christ said: to preach the word, to read, to preach, etc. In the Book of Timothy chapter 4 verse 13,

Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.

It is the admonition or the teaching of the Lord Jesus Christ to a minister, to a disciple,to a preacher: read, exhort, and teach the doctrine. The same teaching was given to Timothy. So, Timothy practiced it, making him a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ. He learned all the doctrines,he practiced the doctrines of Christ that the Apostle Paul taught him.
At the end, in the book of 2 Timothy chapter 3 verse 10,

But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience

Timothy was a full follower, carrying the quality of a disciple.
So, the disciple must doall these things that the Lord Jesus Christ teaches them to do.
