So Many Scenes to See
Growing up, as a science student, it was normal to be a lover of books. Aside academic materials, the only other books everyone expected you to read, were the regular romance novels most people enjoyed. The moment you were found reading a book that had more complex themes, your love for books was termed “different”.
Wuthering heights was that one book that put me into that category. That was a book most of the students detested including those who offered literature as a subject, and I enjoyed it so much. So, since they couldn’t feel what I felt with the book, they didn’t know how to handle my excitement. And thankfully, I was too bothered about the next book i was going to read, whether it would be on par with the one I just finished reading, that i didn’t even bother about their opinions. A stark contrast to what’s been going on with my book life these days.

In between reading for my final year exams, and working on my seminar/project reports, it’s been such a hassle bringing myself to read a book. Most nights are spent trying to gather enough rest, and at the same time, ensuring i don’t sleep past my alarm.
I read three books in January, and somehow, I’ve not been able to complete at least one book this February. There’s too much going on at the moment, for me to even feel the impact. But then again, I know that a time will come, where I’ll read as much books just as I used to. I know a time is coming where I’ll bask in the sun, in my own garden, a book in hand, and a glass of juice next to me. However, it is time for me to work. Although it’s no fun, I continually look forward to what it stands to offer in the future.
Now, back to the good news. There’s a new live adaptation of ‘Wuthering Heights’. I saw the trailer earlier this year, and counted down to its release date. It’s been over 15 days since its release, and while I was excited for it, there was nothing I could do since it aired only in cinemas all these while, and there’s none around my school environment. So, today, I checked again, and finally, it’s available on other platforms.
Judging by past experiences with book adaptations, there’s a valid reason for me to feel a slight hesitation but that’s all there is to it - slight hesitation. There are so many scenes in this story, I want to see played out, and that’s what inspired this post. There was a particular scene, where Heathcliff returned to the estate, with his wealth. Old Nelly’s reaction on seeing Heathcliff scheme once again. Oh boy! I can already imagine the goosebumps I’d be getting everytime I watch a scene that struck me back then.

I can’t wait to watch the scene where Catherine confessed to Nelly, telling her about how she liked Heathcliff, and why she feared to choose him, while Heathcliff eavesdropped on the conversation. This is going to be such a fun ride. One I can already imagine. I want to believe this movie is going to be near perfect. Margot Robbie, fits the Catherine i had envisioned. As for Jacob Elordi, I didn’t really picture Heathcliff as him, but from his other roles, I believe he’ll body this as well.
With how fast paced, the year has been for me, I hope I get to watch this movie sooner. Taking a break for over two hours these days, now feel like an academic mistake. I look forward to watching it though. I simply decided to put this out here, to document how I felt, before watching the movie. I’ll definitely do a review when I eventually watch it, and I’ll come back to this. But for now, it’s byeee! Till whenever I find the time or the mental capacity to write again.
Thanks for reading.
