The Perks of Being WallFlowers [Review] ESP/ENG
Hello Hello, people of #HiveBookClub! Today I'm super happy to have finally been able to read a book I always wanted to read, I'm talking about The Perks of Being WallFlowers by Stephen Chbosky, a novel with many nuances from which we can learn many things. I knew the story some time ago when the movie with Emma Watson was released but recently I was able to read the novel, so without further ado, let's start!
¡Hola Hola, gente de #HiveBookClub! Hoy estoy super feliz de haber podido finalmente leer un libro que siempre quise leer, me refiero a Las Ventajas de ser Invisible por Stephen Chbosky, una novela con muchos matices de la cual podemos aprender muchas cosas. Conocí la historia hace tiempo cuando se estrenó la película con Emma Watson pero recientemente fue que pude leer la novela, así que sin más dilación ¡Comencemos!
Charlie is a shy and withdrawn young man who of course has many problems to adapt to society and especially to make friends, to top it all his only friend, Michael takes his life, which ends up plunging Charlie into a great sadness and despondency, however when he enters high school he meets a couple of people who will change his life: Sam and Patrick, a boy and a girl who integrate him into their social circle and help him to experience the typical fun of the age. However, in this search for new experiences Charlie discovers the need to get rid of an old childhood trauma caused by the abuse of someone in his own family circle.
Charlie es un joven tímido y retraído que desde luego tiene muchos problemas para adaptarse a la sociedad y sobre todo para hacer amigos, para colmo su único amigo, Michael se quita la vida, lo cual termina de sumir a Charlie en una gran tristeza y abatimiento, sin embargo cuando entra en la preparatoria conoce a un par de personas que cambiarán su vida: Sam y Patrick, un chico y una chica que lo integran en su circulo social y lo ayudan a experimentar las diversiones típicas de la edad. Sin embargo, en esa búsqueda de nuevas experiencias Charlie descubre la necesidad de deshacerse de un viejo trauma de infancia causado por el abuso de alguien que estaba en su propio circulo familiar.
Most of the book is developed through letters written from Sam to someone anonymous, but then we discover that these letters are nothing more than the way he has to deal with his trauma, a way to externalize what he feels, since as I mentioned, he is a very reserved boy and does not share his emotions with anyone, not even with his parents. In fact the name of the book in English is a preamble to this because the term "Wallflowers" in Spanish could be translated as "Alhelí" (a type of flower that grows on walls) but in English this word also usually refers to a shy or withdrawn person who prefers to keep to himself.
La mayor parte del libro se desarrolla mediante cartas escritas de Sam a alguien anónimo, pero luego descubrimos que estas cartas no son más que la forma que él tiene de lidiar con su trauma, una forma de exteriorizar lo que siente, ya que tal como mencioné, él es un chico muy reservado y no comparte sus emociones con nadie, ni siquiera con sus padres. De hecho el nombre del libro en inglés es un preámbulo de esto porque el término "Wallflowers" en español podría traducirse como "Alhelí" (un tipo de flor que crece en muros o paredes) pero en inglés esta palabra también suele referirse a una persona tímida o retraída que prefiere mantenerse aislada.
This novel explores themes such as adolescence, friendship, trust and love, as well as what it means to be a teenager in search of new experiences and emotions, but also other more complex issues such as mental illness or trauma and abuse, is a warning cry for parents to be more aware of their children that often that withdrawal and introspection can hide many things with which he or she pretends to deal alone until they realize that in reality they can not cope anymore.
Esta novela explora temas como la adolescencia, la amistad, la confianza y el amor, además de lo que significa ser un adolescente en la búsqueda de nuevas experiencias y emociones, pero también otros más complejos como las enfermedades o traumas mentales y el abuso, es un grito de alerta para que los padres estén más pendientes de sus hijos que muchas veces ese retraimiento e introspección puede esconder muchas cosas con las que él o ella pretenden lidiar solos hasta darse cuenta que en realidad no pueden más
The narrative of this book, being epistolary gives it a more intimate and personal touch, it is as if in a way you feel part of Charlie or he part of you, it helps you to understand him better, it is very easy to empathize with him, especially you are moved because you know how difficult it is for him to communicate with others in a normal way, that's why when he begins to open his heart to Sam you feel a great emotion but at the same time fear and uncertainty, just as you feel anger and helplessness when you discover what is so serious and painful that Charlie keeps in a secluded corner of his memory and that little by little has been unblocked.
La narrativa de este libro, al ser epistolar le otorga un toque más íntimo y personal, es como si de cierta manera te sintieras parte de Charlie o él parte de ti, te ayuda a comprenderlo mejor, es muy fácil empatizar con él, sobre todo te conmueves porque sabes cuan difícil es para él comunicarse con otros de forma normal, por eso cuando comienza a abrir su corazón para Sam sientes una gran emoción pero al mismo tiempo miedo e incertidumbre, de la misma manera que sientes rabia e impotencia al descubrir que es eso tan grave y doloroso que Charlie guarda en un rincón apartado de su memoria y que poco a poco se ha ido desbloqueando.
