REFLECTIONS FROM MY FLOODED YARD - for the Reflection Hunters Contest ~ Round 218
The rain was short but heavy. It was very intense. Some parts of my hometown were seriously flooded, and properties were damaged. My neiberhood is uphill enough, and the drainage system works fine, so I can now write this post instead of repairing stuff around the house.
It all happened about seven or eight hours ago. It's still fresh. I was sitting here and planning another, much longer post to publish a couple of days from now, when the Reflection Hunters Contest came to my mind.
With a temporary little swamp in my yard, I got a nice opportunity to photograph a few interesting reflections.
This is the first reflection-themed shot I prepared for the post, and it's the entry for the contest.
Land snails like humidity, but they breathe air and aren't good swimmers, so they can easily drown.
This little snail is clinging to some herbaceous plant, waiting for the soil to absorb the surplus water in my yard. The snail's reflection is also there, making the photograph fit the contest.

This relatively big green bottle, used for storing the olive oil, was standing vertically near the pomegranate tree before the rain. Now you can see it lying in the water under the same tree.
If you enlarge the picture by clicking on it and explore all the little details, you may notice a grasshopper that has found a safe, dry place on that bottle.
I didn't notice the grasshopper while photographing, only later on the computer screen.

Here you can see a small herbaceous plant with yellow flowers peeking from the water. I like weeds, wild plants, and all kinds of pests, so I let them live and prosper in my yard and garden.
I saved quite a few snails that feed on what I cultivate in the garden from drowning today. Weird, ha? That's me.

Very, very cool reflections. I hope the flooding didn't do too much damage to the community. Flooding is a very hard thing to have to clean up. I've done so after hurricanes when I lived in the Caribbean, not fun at all.
