The Sanctuary of Divine Providence. A monumental temple with a large dome on top / Świątynia Opatrzności Bożej

Every time I come to the Warsaw district of Wilanów, my attention is drawn to a huge building - the Sanctuary of Divine Providence. It can be seen from the surrounding modern housing estates. So far, I've only admired it from the outside - a cube with a characteristic dome, and a few days ago I managed to go inside and discovered what architectural treasures this place hides.

Za każdym razem, gdy przyjeżdżam do warszawskiej dzielnicy Wilanów, moją uwagę zwraca ogromna budowla - Świątynia Opatrzności Bożej. Widać ją z okolicznych nowoczesnych osiedli. Dotychczas podziwiałam ją tylko z zewnątrz - sześcian z charakterystyczną kopułą, a kilka dni temu udało mi się wejść do środka i odkryłam jakie architektoniczne skarby skrywa to miejsce.

Apart from me, there were several adults and a group of children on a school trip in the temple. I waited a while so as not to photograph them against the backdrop of the interior, and when they left, I felt a bit like I had this place to myself. Apart from me, there were only a few people who were sitting in the last rows of pews. Inside the building it was very bright. The light coming through the glazed dome and numerous windows perfectly illuminated the interior. When I looked up, I saw a lot of round shapes that created an interesting visual effect. Slightly mesmerizing, memorable.

W świątyni oprócz mnie znajdowało się kilku dorosłych i grupka dzieci uczestniczących w wycieczce szkolnej. Poczekałam chwilę, żeby ich nie fotografować na tle wnętrza, a gdy sobie poszli poczułam się trochę jakbym miała to miejsc tylko dla siebie. Oprócz mnie było tylko kilka osób, które siedziały w ostatnich rzędach ławek. We wnętrzu budynku było bardzo jasno. Światło wpadające przez przeszkoloną kopułę i liczne okna świetnie oświetlało wnętrze. Gdy spojrzałam w górę, zobaczyłam dużo okrągłych kształtów, które tworzyły ciekawy efekt wizualny. Nieco hipnotyzujący, zapadający w pamięć.

The altar looked modern and minimalistic when compared to other churches where I saw many decorations. There were few elements here, but some of them - of large size. For example, a huge statue of Christ made of bronze or a large marble altar. By the altar wall there were also many photos of saints, such as Urszula Ledochówska or Stanisław Papczyński.

Ołtarz prezentował się nowocześnie i minimalistycznie, gdy porównam sobie inne kościoły, w których widziałam wiele zdobień. Tu było mało elementów, ale niektóre z nich - konkretnych rozmiarów. Choćby ogromna figurka Chrystusa wykonana z brązu, czy duży marmurowy ołtarz. Przy ścianie ołtarza znajdowało się również dużo zdjęć świętych osób, takich jak na przykład Urszula Ledochówska, czy Stanisław Papczyński.

I also noticed the chairs on the altar. Some of them were baroque chairs with red upholstery, and the chair in the middle, next to the rostrum, looked very elegant, like a throne. It had yellow upholstery (the colors of the Vatican), gold carvings, some crest, and wooden armrests.

Zwróciłam też uwagę na krzesła znajdujące się na ołtarzu. Część z nich to były barokowe krzesła z czerwoną tapicerką, a krzesło znajdujące się po środku, przy mównicy wyglądało niezwykle elegancko, jak królewski tron. Miało żółtą tapicerkę (barwy Watykanu), złote rzeźbienia, jakiś herb oraz drewniane podłokietniki.

In another part of the altar there was a wooden statue of Mary, the flag of the Vatican and numerous bouquets of flowers, which gave a beautiful fragrance that permeated the interior of the church.

W innej części ołtarza była ustawiona drewniana figurka Maryi, flaga Watykanu i liczne bukiety kwiatów, które dawały piękny zapach, który przenikał wnętrze kościoła. Bardzo ładnie się to prezentowało.

You can see how the people leading the services see the space in front of them, the places for the faithful in the church. There are a lot of seats, so many people can come to mass. You can also see a huge cross from there, which is hung a little higher, above the heads of the faithful.

Zrobiłam zdjęcia z drugiej strony. Możecie zobaczyć jak osoby prowadzące nabożeństwa widzą przestrzeń przed sobą, miejsca dla wiernych w kościele. Jest bardzo dużo miejsc siedzących, więc sporo osób może przyjść na msze. Widać też stamtąd ogromny krzyż, który jest zawieszony nieco wyżej, nad głowami wiernych.

Because the church was a bit deserted, my imagination decided to fill the void and I imagined what this place looks like when there are a lot of people here, some celebration takes place. When you hear the sounds of religious songs, the priest's sermon, people gather at the altar to receive holy communion, when the temple is teeming with life.

Ponieważ kościół był nieco opustoszały, moja wyobraźnia postanowiła zapełnić pustkę i wyobrażałam sobie jak wygląda to miejsce, gdy znajduje się tu sporo ludzi, odbywa się jakaś uroczystość. Gdy słychać dźwięki religijnych piosenek, kazanie księdza, ludzie gromadzą się pod ołtarzem przyjąć komunię świętą, gdy świątynia tętni życiem.

There are numerous slanted pillars in the temple, which look a bit like the internal skeleton of the building. Thanks to the fact that there are large gaps between them, the sun perfectly penetrates from the windows into the interior. It is a modern, solid construction.

W świątyni znajdują się liczne skośne filary, które wyglądają trochę jak wewnętrzny szkielet budynku. Dzięki temu, że są między nimi duże przerwy słońce świetnie przenika z okien do wnętrza. Jest to nowoczesna, solidna konstrukcja.

When I looked again at the dome, visible from inside the building, I came to the conclusion that it reminded me a bit of an airplane turbine. This may be an unusual comparison, but I think it's accurate. Some of you also like that associate?

Gdy spojrzałam raz jeszcze na kopułę, widoczną z wnętrza budynku doszłam do wniosku, że przypomina mi trochę turbinę samolotu. Może to nietypowe porównanie, ale myślę, że celne. Komuś z was też się tak skojarzyło? 😉

On the columns in the church you can see sculptures depicting Christ during the Way of the Cross. I liked various important details of this type in this temple.

Na kolumnach w kościele widać rzeźby przedstawiające Chrystusa podczas drogi krzyżowej. Podobały mi się w tej świątyni różne ważne detale, tego typu.
