[ENG/ESP] A night of markets and witches
Happy start to the week, everyone. I sincerely hope that it will be, above all, a very productive one, full of many achievements. Personally, I know that mine will be, because we are continuing with the work at the Sunsol chain hotels, focused on improving everything related to the drinking water service. It is a job that requires perseverance, but also commitment, and we have no shortage of either on a daily basis.
This past Sunday was a day of preparation. We organized ourselves to make sure everything was ready for the week ahead, without forgetting about our families. In the morning, we left early to fill up at the Los Cerritos gas station. The idea was to fill up the tank so we wouldn't have to wait in line during the week, which we know can be long and exhausting. Better safe than sorry.
Feliz inicio de semana tengan todos. Les deseo de corazón que sea, sobre todo, muy productiva, llena de muchos logros. En lo personal, ya sé que la mía lo será, porque seguimos adelante con las labores en los hoteles de la cadena Sunsol, enfocados en mejorar todo lo relacionado con el servicio de agua potable. Es un trabajo que requiere constancia, pero también compromiso, y eso no nos falta día a día.
Este domingo que recién culminó fue de preparación. Nos organizamos para tener todo garantizado para la semana que comienza, sin dejar de pensar en la familia. En la mañana, salimos temprano a colocar combustible en la gasolinera de Los Cerritos. La idea era llenar bien el tanque para no tener que hacer colas durante la semana, que sabemos pueden ser largas y agotadoras. Mejor prevenir que lamentar.
The weather was somewhat unpredictable at dawn: scattered clouds and strong winds. However, as is often the case on the island, as the morning progressed, the sun came out in full force. The heat became stifling, the kind that forces you to seek shade and something cold to cool off.
El clima amaneció algo caprichoso: con nubes dispersas y mucho viento. Sin embargo, como suele suceder en la isla, a medida que la mañana avanzaba, el sol se impuso con fuerza. El calor se volvió sofocante, de esos que te obligan a buscar sombra y algo frío para refrescarte.
After filling up with gas, we went to pick up my father to accompany him to the market. He has his own tastes and needs, and prefers to shop at the Río market. That's why it's always best for him to choose his own things. No one knows what he wants and how he wants it better than he does. While he was looking for his vegetables and other products, I took refuge from the heat with a delicious Tío Rico popsicle. What a relief! There's nothing like a good ice cream to cope with the midday heat.
Después de cargar combustible, fuimos a buscar a mi padre para acompañarlo a hacer su mercado. Él tiene sus propios gustos y necesidades, y prefiere comprar en el mercado Río. Por eso siempre es mejor que él mismo elija sus cosas. Nadie como él sabe lo que quiere y cómo lo quiere. Mientras él buscaba sus verduras y otros productos, yo me refugié del calor con una deliciosa paleta Tío Rico. ¡Qué alivio! Nada como un buen helado para sobrellevar el calor del mediodía.
Once he had finished shopping, we took him home. Although he could have gone alone, the idea was to spend some time with him, help him with the bags, and organize his pantry. Those little moments with family always add up, especially when it comes to caring for our elders.
Una vez terminadas sus compras, lo llevamos a su casa. Aunque él puede ir solo, la idea era compartir un rato con él, ayudarle con las bolsas y acomodar su alacena. Esos pequeños momentos en familia siempre suman, y más cuando se trata de cuidar a nuestros mayores.
Then it was time to go to the market. We shop at SIGO, which is my favorite. They know me at the butcher shop and indulge me when I ask for a special cut. That familiarity makes the experience more enjoyable. Although night had already fallen, that didn't stop us. On the contrary, the nighttime atmosphere added a special touch.
Upon entering the market, I was struck by the Halloween decorations. There was a festive atmosphere throughout the aisles. There were fake spider webs, pumpkins, and witch figures.
Luego llegó el turno de nuestro mercado. Nosotros compramos en SIGO, que es mi preferido. Ya en la carnicería me conocen y me consienten cuando pido algún corte especial. Esa familiaridad hace que la experiencia sea más amena. Aunque ya había caído la noche, eso no nos detuvo. Al contrario, el ambiente nocturno le dio un toque especial.
Al entrar al mercado, me llamó la atención la decoración de Halloween. Se respiraba ese aire festivo por todos los pasillos. Había telarañas falsas, calabazas, figuras de brujas.
Even the guys at the butcher shop had gotten creative: they wore eye-catching owls and colorful headbands. I love details like that. I like to see how people join in the celebrations, get into the spirit, and bring life to spaces.
The cashier who served us had also joined in the festive spirit. She wore an angel halo on her head, which made me smile. These gestures, though simple, make the routine more fun. It was a joyful, different market night, with that magical touch that only special occasions can provide.
Hasta los muchachos de la carnicería se habían puesto creativos: llevaban búhos llamativos y bandas de colores en la cabeza. Ese tipo de detalles me encantan. Me gusta ver cómo las personas se suman a las celebraciones, se ponen a tono y le dan vida a los espacios.
La cajera que nos atendió también se había unido al espíritu festivo. Llevaba un aro de ángel en la cabeza, lo que me sacó una sonrisa. Esos gestos, aunque sencillos, hacen que la rutina se vuelva más divertida. Fue una noche de mercado alegre, diferente, con ese toque mágico que solo las fechas especiales pueden dar.
