Dental Office Day: Radiographs (about developing, fixing and obtaining a good radiological image) [ENG/ESP]
Greetings to everyone in the Daily Blog community! Today I'm joining you again to celebrate a new day at the dental office. Today, starting Monday, I arrived as usual, setting up the entire office and surrounding area while the doctor arrived. I like being able to leave everything clean: the dental unit (the chair), sterilize, take inventory, wash, and change everything necessary. It may sound a little crazy, but the smell of isopropyl alcohol is pleasant. I feel that it also makes everything truly disinfected and sterile. However, one of the things I like most, that doesn't have to do with accompanying the doctor and patient during their dental treatments or the most common tasks of a Dental Assistant (such as cleaning, sterilizing, and healing), is being able to take some x-rays.

Hoy, comenzando el día lunes, llegué como de costumbre acomodando todo el consultorio y el alrededor mientras la doctora llegaba. Me gusta poder dejar todo limpio; la unidad odontológica (el sillón), esterilizar, hacer inventario, lavar y cambiar todo lo necesario. Sonará un poco loco pero el olor al alcohol isopropílico me parece agradable, siento que además, con él todo queda realmente desinfectado y estéril. Sin embargo, una de las cosas que más me gustan que no tienen que ver con acompañar al doctor y al paciente en sus tratamientos odontológicos o las labores más comunes del Asistente Dental (cómo limpiar, esterilizar y sanar), me gusta poder hacer algunas radiografías.
In the office (and in most offices), there is radiology equipment to take, of course, x-rays. This is how I've had the opportunity to take periapical and bitewing radiographs, which are usually smaller radiographs (not like panoramic ones that cover the entire oral cavity and part of the maxilla) and are intended to pinpoint a specific area. So, I jumped right into action when a patient came in needing a periapical radiograph. What you see in the photographs are: developer, water, and fixative. The film for the radiograph must be developed in a dark box where artificial or natural light penetrates during the development process. And it's also quite fun.
En el consultorio (y en la mayoría de ellos), se cuenta con un equipo radiológico para realizar, por supuesto, radiografías. Es así cómo he tenido la oportunidad de hacer radiografías periapicales y de mordida, que suelen ser radiografías más pequeñas (no como las panorámicas que abarcan toda la cavidad bucal y parte del maxilar) y con la intención de dar con una zona en especifico. Así que manos a la acción, fui a ello cuando llegó un paciente necesitando una radiografía periapical. Lo que ven en las fotografías son: revelador, agua y fijador. La película de la radiografía debe revelarse en una caja oscura donde la luz artificial o natural, penetren durante el proceso de revelado. Y es además, bastante divertido.
In general, developing an x-ray is simple; You must insert the film into the box, uncover it and keep the film, which comes wrapped in several protective layers. Then, it is immersed in developer liquid (for about 30 seconds) and constantly checked, ensuring that the image is not blurred (it should not remain black). Then, we pass it through water and introduce it into the fixer (for another 30 seconds) and remove it from the box to finish washing with more water and let it dry. One must always be aware of the image, the light, and of course, that the liquids are working as they should. So, it is always good to check the expiration dates of the products, change them regularly, and clean everything very well after work. I hope you enjoyed part of this exhibition. En general, revelar una radiografía es algo sencillo; debes introducir la película dentro de la caja, destapamos y nos quedamos con la película que viene envuelta con varias capas que la protegen, luego se introduce en líquido revelador (unos 30 segundos) y se chequea constantemente procurando que no se vele la imagen (no debe quedar negra), luego pasamos por agua e introducimos en el fijador (por otros 30 segundos) y sacamos de la caja para terminar de lavar con más agua y dejar secar. Debe uno siempre estar pendiente de la imagen, la luz y por supuesto, que los liquidos estén trabajando cómo deben. Así que siempre es bueno chequear las fechas de vencimiento de los productos, cambiarlos con constancia y limpiando muy bien todo luego del trabajo.
