Bicycle ride on a Saturday; the first longer ride with my new bike 🚴🏻💪🏻
The ride
As you might have read in one of my earlier blogs; I have bought a new bicycle! I've been using it for some commuting rides, but didn't use it to go for a longer ride yet due to circumstances. Until today!
There were no other activities, the weather was good and I've recovered enough from the flu. So together with my cycling buddies I went for a ride.
The route
We didn't plan a route in advance for the ride on Saturday. There wasn't a lot of wind, so the direction wasn't an issue. We headed north into the direction of Amsterdam. I now remember why I always plan a route in advance. We ended up in the Schiphol area, which is the largest airport of The Netherlands. Besides the noise of the planes taking off, the area consists of cargo depots, hotels and parking lots. Not the environment I like to ride in.
But it's something to keep in mind for next time: we should plan a route in advance again.
The stats
It was quite a while ago that I had made a longer ride and despite the fact that I have a lighter and more aerodynamic bicycle, the ride was quite exhausting. It must have something to do with a decreased fitness because of the flu I had. Especially the last few kilometers I was struggling to follow my buddies who have been cycling a lot more than I did this year.
Anyways, I've finished the 67 kilometers within 2,5 hours and an average speed of 27,4. The average could have been higher, but we had quite a lot of traffic lights around the airport.
The average heart rate of 145 bpm is also quite high. As I mentioned before, I was struggling a bit on the way back, what caused my heart rate to be in zone 5 for quite some time.
That will probably get better when I make some more longer rides.
The goals
Just like last year I've set my goal to cycle 5000 kilometers on my road bicycle. I've been lagging a bit with a spring holiday and the flu, but I'm picking it up now with my new bicycle.
I've covered just over 750 kilometers this year which is 15% of my yearly goal. There are enough days left to catch up with the backlog I currently have.

The answer is sometimes. Today I was cycling together with my buddies and we were talking a lot along the way, so I don't think about Hive then.
I do sometimes take some pictures during my ride that I especially make for sharing in blog or PeakD snaps.

Ah yes, the first proper ride with a new bike. Looks like a really nice route too. Those quiet roads are the best for just settling into the ride and getting used to the bike, where you start noticing all the little things, saddle, position, gearing, all that. Always a good feeling though. New bike days are hard to beat.

Thanks! It was good for getting used to the bike indeed. Especially the hydrolic disc breaks that work very well.
Yes! My bikes still use V-brakes, though, haha. I’m still dreaming of building a gravel bike someday. The 700c wheelset with wider tires just looks so tempting.
We've had some guys on Hive that built their own bicycle. I know one of them is not active on Hive anymore. And I haven't seen the other one in the Cycling Community for a long time.

It definitely will take some time before you're back after a flu, but still a nice distance and average speed!
Was your entire ride without rain? It rained a couple of times today where I am... I'll be riding tomorrow again, the wind is much better than it was last week so that's really nice!
We just had a few drops of rain during the ride. Tomorrow and the rest of the week will mostly be dry.

Okay now if I lived in the netherlands I wouldn't need an e-bike! To travel or cycle on flatlands like that would be a dreaaaam. It must have been nice to travel after the flu! Stretch your limbs and blow out the cobwebs.
You would be surprised how many people still ride e-bikes here.
But that's mainly because we have a great cycling infrastructure.
In the past decade the government has invested a lot in cycling highways between cities. These long, mostly straight roads are perfect to cover larger distances. A lot of commuters use these.
It's nice to becriding longer distances again, but annoying to see how fast fitness level decreases 🤨
Time to build it up again.
Yeas, your country is famous for it! We are facing such a shortage of fuel right now and there's no safe path to get all the way to my Mum's town 20 mins away!
Don't worry you know it builds up again fast too.

If you didn't know I've been getting downvoted for a long time on Hive
They have been trying to bully me with downvotes and words but it doesn't affect me I've been online for over 25 years
So I've dealt with people like this before it's nothing new
But what they are doing is bad Very badi joined steemit like everyone else thinking it offers freedom but I must say steemit offered much more freedom than Hive does
Everyone already knows I only post my own original content I have no need to steal anything from anyone
I've been labelled a lot of things on Hive 😂 by the biggest farmers scammers and downvoters
Actions speak louder than any words do especially when them words are coming from a compolsive liars

Hello everyone I hope you are all good and well today in this post is some of the evidence to prove my case
If you didn't know I've been getting downvoted for a long time on Hive
They have been trying to bully me with downvotes and words but it doesn't affect me I've been online for over 25 years
So I've dealt with people like this before it's nothing new
But what they are doing is bad Very badi joined steemit like everyone else thinking it offers freedom but I must say steemit offered much more freedom than Hive does
Everyone already knows I only post my own original content I have no need to steal anything from anyone
