A prank gone wrong.

I was sitting with my friend, Jude in the chemistry laboratory when Segun came in with good news.

"Prof. Egila is looking for you. He is waiting for you in his car."

"Can we go see him please? I stood up immediately and asked him.

Prof. Egila taught us a course. In his last class with us, he called my name and said that my continuous assessment test score was missing. He gave me two options to rectify the problem. Either I look for my script and take it to him to record the mark or sit in his office to write another test. I opted for the former because I keep record of my test scripts very well. I was sure that the script would be in my house.

I got home after school and went straight to look for the script. I found the script. I scored 27 out of 30 obtainable marks.

"Devil is a liar," I told myself when I picked the script.

Since that day, I started looking for the Prof to give him the script to no avail.

Segun was not offering the chemistry practical that kept me waiting in the laboratory. He only came to call me to meet the Professor. He agreed to take me to the Prof.

As we stepped out of the laboratory, a lecturer called him. He described where I would find the professor since I was now the only person going outside the gate.

I got outside the campus and looked around for the Professor but couldn't find him. I spent a few minutes looking for Prof. Egila without success. I decided to go back inside and return to the laboratory for my practical.

A few meters into my trekking to the laboratory, another lecturer called me. The lecturer was trying to lift a photocopier from the ground into the boot of his car. He needed assistance. I joined him to arrange the photocopier safely in the boot. As we were doing that, my phone was vibrating in my pocket. I ignored the call with the plan to call back whoever was calling me later.

When I proceeded to the laboratory, I checked my phone to see who was calling and I realized that Segun had called me more than five times. As I dialed his number in return, I sighted the laboratory doors closed. I dropped the call and rushed to the laboratory. I saw through the window that the practical class was already going on. I knocked the door and pleaded with the lecturer to allow me in but he refused. All my plea fell on deaf ears.

My eyes became red. The practical was a component of the examination for the course. When it dawned on me that I wouldn't be allowed to participate, I took my phone and called Segun.

After explaining to him what transpired, he opted to come and meet me at the laboratory premises. He became very sober on sighting me.

"I hope that you find a place in your heart to forgive me," he pleaded.

"Forgive you for what?" I asked him. I was totally confused.

"I was pranking you when I told you that Prof. Egila was calling you outside the gate. I wanted to end the prank with April fool because today is 1st of April," he explained.

My face contorted with rage. I was totally angry.

"Do you know what you just caused me? Do you know the implication of my absence in this practical class?"

He continued to plead with me.

"I was trying to call you so that I can inform you of my intention on time but you didn't pick your call."

"The damage has already been done. I pray that I don't carry over this course."

I later wrote the theoretical aspect of the course which accounted for 60%. The practical that I missed accounted for 40%.

At the end, I was able to score a D in the course. That was the only D that I had during my undergraduate.

Whenever I check my transcript and see the grade, it reminds me of a prank gone wrong.

I forgave Segun.

However, after that experience, I explained to people close to me never to play me any prank again. I can sever a relationship with someone because of this.
