The good in social media

Everything in this life has an advantage and a disadvantage. It all depends on the side we choose to make use of or allow to influence us. Even death, as ugly as it is, has its advantages too. I am sure you have seen situations where a person has been sick for years, draining the wealth of the family through continuous medical treatment. When the person finally dies, it often feels like a relief to both the family and the sick person because the spending stops and the pain the person was going through during the sickness finally comes to an end.

This same thing is applicable to social media as we have it in our world today. While it is building lives and helping many people make ends meet, it is also destroying lives at the same time.

If you ask me whether social media has done me good or bad, I would say it has influenced me positively, and I have taken advantage of it very well.

It has helped me a lot to save money that I would have used to buy airtime for calls. These days, I often make my calls through voice calls, especially on WhatsApp, and I also carry out most of my communication online through chats. I rarely buy airtime for calls these days, and this is a positive thing for me, even though I spend money on data subscriptions.

Also, I am not easily influenced by the negative things people post on social media. I often unfollow, block, or restrict accounts so I do not see unwanted posts because I value my mental health a lot. There was a time when an account I was following, belonging to a friend of mine on Facebook, was always posting scam-related content. It almost tempted me to subscribe to an investment platform the friend was promoting, even though I knew what he was posting could not be real. I had to unfollow the friend, and later on, I discovered that the friend’s account had been hacked by a scammer. I quickly run away from anything on social media that may stress my life or try to scam me.

Although I am not earning yet from social media, I have the mindset to monetize my account later in the future, maybe next year, so I can start earning like others.
