Therapy? Much needed
There are some things you come across in this life and you can't help but wonder what exactly drove the perpetrator of the act to do so. I've heard and seen a lot of people combine two different meals in one, all in the name of exploring. Let me tell you about some of them.
Bread and Noodles.
This is one meal I've seen people eat and somehow, it has started to become widely accepted. The first time I heard of this combo was in the university. My roommate then, talked about it and I remember staring at her like she was going crazy. Then, one particular day, we cooked noodles and she complained that the amount we cooked would not satisfy her. You know what my lovely friend did? She bought bread, sliced it into two halves and poured the noodles into it. Shocked is an understatement of what I felt that day.
I stared at her like something that escaped from a museum and she smiled while eating it, relishing it. Eventually, one day I decided to taste it, if it was as wonderful as she made it look. I ensured she was around so I didn't end up wasting it if I couldn't. I tasted it but couldn't bear the curly nature of the noodles peeking out the bread folds in my mouth. So, I gave up. Bread and noodles is just one among those food combos I can't seem to wrap my head around.
Bread and Coconut
This meal. I have just one question. How do those that eat it, eat it? Do you bite bread separately and bite the coconut, then chew both? or do you place the coconut between the bread and bite at the same time? I definitely do not understand this duo.
Coconut is hard, bread is soft. Why then are you punishing yourself? We're you so out of options? If you want to go full-on hard to chew meals, go for it. If you want to go for soft, go for it. I haven't tried this meal before and I don't intend to. It's just weird to me and I feel like there are boundaries that should not be crossed when it comes to food. Chewing bread and coconut, is one.
Bread and custard
Bread is a huge culprit in all these combos as you can see. Why are you combining bread with a meal like custard? If the custard won't satisfy you, rest and take something else, won't you? Why take it with bread? I think this meal now has become widely accepted as I've seen people talk about it as normal, on social media platforms but I still haven't been able to understand it myself. In my school, it's a delicacy among the students and they say it so mundanely 'I'm eating bread and custard'.
The taste of bread is perfect just the way it is and I feel like eating it with custard is soiling it. When a friend talked me into trying it sometime ago, I ended up keeping the bread aside and taking the custard alone, against my will.
Custard and Plantain
The first time I heard of this particular food was earlier this year and I wondered how people ate such. Firstly, I'm not custard's biggest fan. I would opt for other food options if available. The same goes for plantain. But having tasted the two, I don't believe they go together. Why not just eat one and leave the other? Take your custard like that and rest or probably find something else. Not plantain please. The combination doesn't sound appealing in any sense, to me.
Fried rice and mayonnaise
I had a roommate last semester, and one random day, she casually said she craved for friend rice. Fried rice she'll use to eat what is left of her mayonnaise. We all paused what we were doing and gaped. What do you mean you want to eat fried rice mixed with cream? How depraved are you? We all asked her how she ate such and she explained that it was the same as eating salad containing mayonnaise with friend rice, and eating the fried rice and mayonnaise, without salad.
I don't even want to imagine how it tastes but I know something. That is one combo I won't try in my life.
These five I've mentioned are among the weirdest combinations I've come across. If you do any of the above, don't worry, find your way to therapy. To those who wait till their noodles go cold and takes the shape of whatever plate or flask it is served in, I see you guys too. Your time is coming.
This is my entry to Hive-Ghana prompt for the week
