Should Couples Really Go Half and Half?

Love they say is a good thing and from what I’ve seen and heard, it really is a good thing. Every one of us needs love be it from our family, friends or romantic partners. Love makes everything beautiful and romantic love, it’s the one that comes with a. touch of butterflies and what have you.

We all can’t do away with love unless you take a personal decision not to. Recently, romantic relationships seem to have taken a different turn in our world today. Where I come from, being a relationship with someone is more like a transactional business for most people. It’s either you’re on the giving end or on the receiving end of both. Either way, most people expect something to be given or received at the end of the day.

Personally, I can understand where everyone is coming from because I believe in a relationship, you should be able to benefit in one way or the other. I don’t necessarily mean it should be a transactional business but it should be one that would have an impact in your life in one way or the other. If I’m to be honest , there’s no way a relationship can be 50/50. You’d be thinking I’ll say it should be 100/0 on the man’s side but nope.

A relationship has to do with putting in effort and that efforts is what we should rate over 100 or over whatever we want to. And as human as we are, there’s no way you can always put in 100 energy or 50 percent energy. We are human and we all have things going on in our lives. Your partner may not always be able to show up for you at their best. Today, they may be able to be there for about 50 percent, tomorrow it could be 20 or even less. You could equally be on 100 or 80 percent which could balance theirs.

Love doesn’t always have to do with expectations, it has to do with collaboration. No one owes you anything in a relationship, technically they do owe you commitment , respect and everything you’re supposed to have in a relationship- so I guess you know the point I’m coming from. To conclude, I’d say a romantic relationship is about partnership, compromise and giving in your best. If you’re out to rank these things, you’re really not ready for this thing called relationship.
