A Suitcase Full Of Choices: Why I'd Keep The $500,000
Imagine you're just an average citizen in a country just working on a minimum wage job and all of a sudden a day you stumble across a suitcase and when you opened it you saw a huge amount of money, let's say $500,000 staring back at you.
At this moment you were afraid that you took the suitcase back home and later in the night you heard on radio that a politician lost his suitcase which also matched the exact suitcase that is in your possession, so tell me what are you going to do that moment?
I don't really know, but during that moment my heart is going to race. What would always go through your mind is that what should I do and what I should not do. Should I hand over the suitcase or I should keep it. I'll begin to do some soul searching
Wait for a minute, let's be sincere to ourselves, looking at my situation I would never return it. I'll give you a reasonable reason why I should not and I cannot return it.
First let's talk about these politicians, they are known as one of the richest citizens of the society or the country, you see them with mansions different cars, private jets and they are the one that influences the country the most. That five hundred thousand dollars is like a breakthrough for me.
I just have to get the money. I have a lot going on in my life. I don't have any more money, I could barely pay for my rent or buy my groceries. That money entirely can change my life for good, it can afford me a better place, I can pay off my debts and even start a small business that I will be successful in it.
I'm not thinking about this the money to squander or use it all to live an expensive or a luxury life, it's about breathing air at last remove myself from the struggles of life.
Then let us add the question of fairness politicians like this they always be their words to to unquestionable means. We don't know if they want to use it for something shady or the money that was stolen from the government account. Returning it will be like feeding a or supporting a corrupt system.
There must be a reason why I find the money there, but so many thoughts will linger in my mind. Why should I just return the money back to the position when I'm still trying to survive. That money could do a lot in my hands. I can support my community my family change, everybody around me with that money.
So keeping this money, it is not about being too selfish or too greedy. It's about seizing this opportunity, once in a life opportunity. And I promise myself, I will be smart with it. I'm not the one, I'm going to invest, plan for the future and do the right thing.
I'm not the one that will know how to squander money. Of course, I know my conscience will really blame me. I will wrestle a lot with guilt. What if the money was meant for something important or meant to develop a community?
But what I have to remember is life also matters. My life matters too. Nobody is a saint, let's not paint picture, let's judge anybody. I'm not the villain either.
I'm just someone trying to make it in this hard world. So I'll keep the suitcase for me, not out of hatred, out of hope for the better future.
Life does not just break things or give you things like that. When it is something like that, you know you really need it. So I'll hold on tight. Use it to build a better life for myself. So that is my own idea. You have your own choice to make too. When is the one, the right one, by everyone else's standards.
This is very well written, well done
There is a reason why the bible said only the violent taketh it by force abi is make heaven sef that is the parable. Question is what is the guarantee you will ever be rich if you return the money? Opportunity they say comes but once.
"that five hundred $ is like breakthrough for me"
That's really funny but in my opinion I'd return it regardless of the corruption, keeping it makes me no different. It simply means the corruption has gotten to me too.
The decision is hard but in the end only the right choices should be made.
I will definitely go with the money, but to clear my guilt and conscience, I did spend 50% on charity work, what makes you different from the politician is how you spend the money.
Nice post.
A fascinating case initiative. My first thought is whether this cash is legit. The fact that this is claimed by a politician already smells shady. Most my country's politicians turn out to be greedy and power hungry propping up a system of legalized robbery from us hard working citizens. You know where I'm going with this....
$500,000 is a lot of cash.
As for me, I would return the money and have peace of mind no matter who the politician is. Thanks for sharing.
