Fur-ever My Loves

When I was a kid, I had a lion as a pet. Was it a lion or a tiger? I don’t remember but I vividly recall it was a huge teddy bear. I got it the first time I watched the lion king with my dad. I loved the cartoon so much that I requested for one of them.

I later watched Shrek and then asked for a dragon as a pet. And then watched Pirates of the Caribbean and wanted an octopus. Ladies and gentlemen, that was when my dad started becoming too tired to watch movies with me out of the blue. I’m sure he was just tired of me and my weird pet requests.

But something I’ll never forget was that promise he made after I watched Mr Bones. I watched that movie with my brothers and realized I was missing out on something big. I had seen elephants in books but that was my first time seeing it in a movie and just knew that I needed an elephant as a pet. So as usual, I waited for my dad to come home that evening and asked him for an elephant.

This time, he promised to get me the real one. I was a kid but I knew that wasn’t possible. A real elephant in my house? What are we creating? A zoo? But I still waited. I waited and waited and waited. And if it’s today that elephant will come, I don’t even know but I’m still waiting.

After that disappointment with my dad, nobody told me to go back to my first love: the family of cats. I’m no more a huge fan of animals like I used to be when I was a child but the family of cats always have my full attention. Have you seen a cheetah? So elegant and pretty. A lion? A leopard? I always say the easiest way to learn how to know your worth is to observe the family of cats. They know their worth. They know how much power they have and behave like it.

Even with cats, there’s no way you’ll offend them and they’ll play with you. No matter what you do. Give them food, water or whatever, they’ll just roll their eyes at you and walk away. We have five cats at home and two love to play with me all the time. And I sometimes look at them and can’t believe they are animals because they do things I can’t explain. One of my favorite things about my cats is how they can sense my mood.

When I go home tired, they just let me be and when I go home excited, I also see them jumping everywhere trying to be all over me. And I would definitely choose them over and over again. One of my cats is currently pregnant and I even can’t wait to welcome the newest member to the family.
