Sketching in freedom with oil pastels.

An happy Sunday to you all!
Today it's a very cold day here and the sky is totally white. Maybe it's snowing on the peaks of the mountains close to my city. After a walk along the side of the river close to my home (a relaxing activity I use to do every day to clean my mind and to move my old bones ^_^), I'm spending my Sunday exercising my hands in freedom on my sketchbook. I'm having so much fun to do it, because I'm using different tecniques and different materials to draw and paint strange creatures.

As you can see, I left my imagination free to work. It's not my usual style of painting and not my usual palette of colors, but sometimes I need to work doing something different to improve not just the techniques I use, but also my ideas.
In this case I used my oil pastels to draw this strange bird and you can see the process thanks the following pics.
At first I used the oil pastel to draw the animal, in the same way a child do:

After I used a brush and the turpentine on the colors to mix them a little:

At the end I used my usual oil colors and a small brushes to add the details:

I hope you like it, because I had so much fun to do it!
See ya soon and stay safe,
Silvia

The sketches of the strange bird showcase a fantastic process. Starting with the oil pastels, reminiscent of a child's free-spirited approach, adds a unique charm to your artwork. The use of a brush and turpentine to blend the colors beautifully captures the evolution of your creation. Finally, the meticulous details added with your usual oil colors and small brushes bring a refined touch to the piece.
