Pages From My Sketchbook - It Is Not A Box

Greetings!

The creation process for this one is as if not more meaningful than the image itself...

An old canvas...the usual deal...

The repainted canvas & background...frantic frustrated splashes and slashes of color...hands dragged over the surface...scratches made with nails (which feels absolutely disgusting by the way...)

Messy chaotic creativity....

Still looked a bit flat...so I used black nail polish...which is not fun or easy to paint large surfaces with...but damn...does it make a sexy deep black!

The swirly details were also done in nail polish...it was delicate, sticky, awful work...pretty much everything after the background was all about careful handling, precision...restraint. It was treated as precious and fragile....as it should be...

White highlights were extremely carefully cut into the black using first a small weeding hook, then a needle...the black needed to be stripped away to add light WITHOUT damaging the canvas.

It is definitely...NOT a box.

Well that's it for now. Till next time!
