The Social Media Trap: Guarding Your Mental Health in a World of Endless Scrolls
Social media is like that chocolate sweet in our brains. It's colorful, very fascinating, sweet, and easy going. And it's easy to just get captured in it. But just like that pack of too much chocolate that can easily leave your stomach, sweet, with endlessly scrolling, liking all videos and pictures. And this can have a large effect on your mental health.
So the truth is, unless you were so intentional about what you really want to consume online, we are also being fed so many harmful substances that are not of importance to our mental health. The good news is that we can take control of this social media space. Instead of to allow us, damage us, we can engage in things that could be of help to community.
Even about the social media platforms that are designed to only keep us food, the algorithm knows what to grab our attention with. Those videos, those comedies, those perfect pictures of influencers, those flashy lifestyles, But we have to get to them to catch our attention well. The world is just like a buffet and has to keep going back. But here is the catch. Just because it sees growth at that moment doesn't mean it is always good for us.
Don't compare ourselves to others. We are getting sucked. Those negative comments, those too much screwing, bad news can also leave us anxious. Fake lifestyle can also put our life in anxiety.
Now how do we break free from this trap? We have to be really picky when it comes to our use of social media. We should be conscious of what we allow into our minds. We should create our feed like we are choosing ingredients. Follow account that does not make impact to you. Follow creators who only inspire you, who make you to grow and learn. Maybe it's a page about journey or motivation or community that share the same hobby.
Just surround yourself with content that sparks joy and growth in your area of feed. Set this band to give yourself the permission to even step away when something is not good. That's what we call digital detox. For few hours or a day, just use it to reconnect with yourself. Read a book, take a walk or have diary conversation. And you will really amaze how you feel.
And when you do moving back online, make sure you engage in things that are so mindful or creative to you. Leave that kind of comment, share that post with all these others. Keep that one that pull you into the cage. Understanding your mentality is so important.
Social media can be a tool for strong connection and inspiration. And if you choose to feed yourself properly. So be selective, intentional. Watch how your life will transform to a place that will nourish yourself.
