His True Color.

Shortly after my father died, his younger brother uncle Fik took us in. When I say us, I mean myself, my mum and my little brother Boye.

He acted like a father to my sibling and I or so I thought. It was a trying moment for us as all other family members moved on shortly after my father's burial as if he left no family behind. Uncle Fik was the only family member who would not give up on us.

She responded cheerfully from the other end saying all is well, we are good, he is fine. Bola, why are you asking all these questions? Then I said to her Uncle Fik wanted me to come home as soon as I could. He said he has something important to discuss with me. Do you know anything about this discussion?

Mum said no o, I know nothing o. Do you want me to ask him? No, don't worry mum I don't want him thinking we are discussing behind him was the response I gave my mum before ending the call. I had to finish up all I had for the week, pack my bag and went home on Friday because my mind was not at rest all through the week. A lot of thoughts were running through my young adult brain.

When I got home, uncle Fik was not in so I had a little time to discuss with my mum. While we were talking, I asked her about Boye, my little brother and she gave a good report saying the boy has been on his best behaviour, he listens to instructions, does his chores without being told and respectful.

From the conversation I had with my mother, I realised that the discussion can not be about him, so I asked if mum had any previous discussion or argument with him and she said no, so I felt a little at ease.

Later that night, uncle Fik got back and called me to the sitting room, when I got there, he asked about my studies and life generally and I responded telling him all was well then he started saying Bola, you are no longer a small child, if not for civilization, your mates in olden days would have gotten married so you are old enough to make decisions.

Uncle Fik wants to take advantage of my family and I because we were helpless. I never believed he could be a wolf in sheep's clothing. I trusted him beyond this. He said if you didn't sign that, I am going to throw your mum and brother out of my house, do you think good things come for free?

As it stands now, I have to look for a place for my mum and brother to stay and I pray I find a place soon.
