CNF: Dinner Expectations.
Life expects a lot from us and we expect a lot from life and people around us. Some of the expectations are met while some may never be.
During my undergraduate years, I had one friend named Mmuti. Muti comes to school from home. I enjoyed every bit of our friendship as she motivated and influenced my studying style.
It was the period we were studying for year two second semester examination and we had this seriously technical course to study for. We needed to study real hard because the lecturer in charge of the course already made us understand that only a few of us passed his test.
Failure to pass this paper may lead to extra years as we would be out of the campus for teaching practice, project, industrial attachment and siwees all depending on our departments hence the need for us to study for this course as if our life depended on it. We attended two different tutorials before six in the evening.

As we were heading out of the hall where the second tutorial was held with the aim of going to the bus stop with my friend Muti, it was as if she was reading my mind then she said Ade, I am not ready to go home now, I want to attend the last promised tutorial too.
Then I said to her madam how do you intend to do that? Then she said don't worry iya Muti will cook dinner for the family on my behalf. Ok was the response I gave her before we walked silently to the venue where the next tutorial was supposed to hold.
After like two hours we left the tutorial center looking tired and exhausted. We walked to the bus stop as if we were dragged and my friend boarded a bus that was to take her home. I thought we had called it a night because I was too exhausted to cook and I slept off the movement I got to the hostel.
It was the ring tone from my phone that woke me up from my sleep. On checking who the caller was, I realized it was my friend Muti. I was afraid at first but when I remembered that information is as important to us as gold I quickly picked up the phone. The young lady was talking like someone close to tears from the other end

Ade, you won't believe it if I tell you that this woman waited for me to come back and cook dinner. **All my expectations were that she would understand that I have an important course to prepare for and help out just this once******. As she was lamenting, I was just telling her to take it easy with the old woman, save her time and get to work immediately.
I called her one hour later to check if she had finished cooking and she didn't pick, so I assumed she was still busy and went back to sleep. By three in the morning when I finally woke up to study more before the day began I called her again.
Hello Ade, let me check what I am cooking. I will call you back was what she said from the other end then she quickly ended the call. I waited for her call till I went to school but the call did not come but I was less bothered because I know she must show up in school for her examination.
We never had the chance to talk before the examination began so the movement exams were over, I asked her babes what were you cooking at that time I called you this morning? Muti said you will not believe it if I tell you that I slept off while I was cooking yesterday night.
It was iya Muti that later finished the cooking. I don't know what she was expecting me to do at that time of the night in the first place. This morning she gave an endless lecture about how I should learn to do a lot of things at the same time reminding me that I am an African woman. As she was talking endlessly I was praying to God to provide me with a man that will meet up all my expectations as the odogwu that I really deserve.
Before Muti could finish her endless explanations, we were already at the entrance of the Library so we had to suspend the discussion till later. From then on, I call Muti three names whenever I want to tease her. I either call her Omo iya Muti(Iya Muti’s daughter), Odogwu’wife or I call her **Muti the African woman.

Thank you for reading, I am @ellizy.
I know what it feels like to attend a chore you thought someone else would because that person failed to.
It's the tough life of students, they battle engagements in the lecture hall and come back to face their domestic duties at home, with their strength levels alarming low. It always feels like drudgery. Having someone that helps you out, at least with domestic affairs can feel like a blessing. That was Muti's expectation, which was sorely dashed.
Yes you get it. She ended up recovering torn advice instead 😂😂
Lol 😂 This story finished me. Muti really suffered that night!
It’s funny, but also so relatable, especially for people who have had to juggle school pressure with home expectations. Sometimes they just expect people to understand, but reality humbles them.
Thanks for sharing
Maybe because they see us as unserious beings or because they expected us to understand too
Sending you some Ecency curation votes.
