If I am replacing, I would definitely go here!
Where you live determines what you see. The people you listen to influence what you hear.

I love this contest as with Mary, @healthymary , we are thinking about where to go living if we ever decide to move from Modena, Italy where we are bow based.
The answer so far has been oriented towards Portugal.
We have been there to visit around and we were based in Lisbon.
At first, Portugal is less touristic than Spain, it has an amazing nature and life is quite cheap. Besides, they have some favourable taxation for Digital Nomads (like me) meaning that from an infrastructure perspective, Portugal is really interesting.
And what about the locations?
Well, some of them are simply amazing.
Since @galenkp asked for a place I will be more specific. If I have to choose, I would go living slightly outside Lisbon. Lisbon is a very accessible city with train and metro, meaning that to be close to the services of the city I would not need to live by the centre.
I would go close to Lisbon, because there I would be close to the bottom part of the Spain where people (and food) are much different so when I would feel going for a tour, in a few hours I would be to Sevilla and Spain.
What about the amazing places at North-Lisbon?

And some strange people :D (yes, she is Mary)

There, another place that I consider to be magic, which is the “Westest” place in Europe, which is Cabo da Roca

I call it magical because during the year, a nitid distinction of color can be seen in the water, differentiating two different currents. Besides, the sound of the waves far far away and a perfect silence (where not too much tourists around) it’s a nice metaphor of the power of nature.
Then, another great attraction is the Christ (Cristo Rei)
With an astonishing view of Lisbon upon it, like you can see in the following picture, where you can

see the historical bridge of Lisbon (Ponte 25 de Abril)
connecting the city to the “rest of the world”, offering a passage onto the Tejo River.

And what about inside Lisbon?
The old train that allows people to move in the deepest historical city centre

And here following me and Mary into the castle of Santa Clause Maria de Feira.

And what about the food?
Oh my Gosh. Bacalau (codfish) is so great and cheap that I ate it almost at every meal we had. It’s a typical local dish as they fish it directly into the Ocean and therefore it’s much abundant.
Fried, baked, stewed, under vinegar, baked with milk, with potatoes and all the forms of side-dishes.
The following were baked sardines with stewed onion and vinegar apart.
Fried Codfish
And spiced anchovies
And the most relevant, well, the traditional dessert. The Pastel de Nata, with cinnamon topping.
Pastel de Nata is a warm dessert made of shortcrust pastry, filled with cooked cream and cinnamon topping (on demand, since not everybody likes cinnamon).
So, besides, the great memories I have in Portugal (as I have lived there for three weeks for a charity experience I made in 2014), the following with Mary I would be definitely happy of going to Portugal to live within.
Clear air due to the close Ocean, amazing food, amazing nature (the area around Sintra is astonishing), friendly people, cheap lifestyle, a good healthcare system AND a strong internet connection…well, Portugal and especially the area northern-Lisbon towards the Ocean would definitely be MY shot!
If you make Portugal happen I'll want to visit, I have heard it's amazing.
We have these here too, at most cafes, Portugese tarts they call them. I guess this is one of the great things about Australia being so multicultural we get to eat foods from all over the world.
For sure! If and when I will replace there, you will all quite clearly see and the first beer will be on me!
Pastel de Nata also call Pasteis du Belem (as the most historical and famous pastry is close to the Belem tower, since more than 100 years) are such good.
I have never been to Australia but I had a tasting of the multi-cultural environment when I stayed months in the Netherlands for studying purposes. And I loved it. Open minded, dynamic and sparkling place
They are tasty treats indeed...a little too sweet for me to have very often, but now and then I'll break the rules.
I've heard the Netherlands is quite multicultural also, much of the world is not I guess. Do you have plans to get to Australia any time? It's a long way from Italy I guess, (I know because I've travelled to Italy a few times) but I know it's worth it.
Yes, they are sweet but the original ones are not that sweet. I once ate 3 or 4 consecutively (I am quite fond of sweet things :D )
Yes, NL is multi-cultural but the most part of the world is not. Besides, different cultures have to properly integrate and not just live together. That's far more difficult.
Well, I have never been to Australia and at the moment is not in my incoming travels as I already have to go to Denmark twice a Year for the Yoga Teacher Training course + a couple of travels to do with Mary.
In this moment time is quite strict to plan such a journey (that would be at least more than two weeks), but I am definitely eager to visit there.
My latest English teacher was from Australia (Canberra I think) and she had such a perfect english but then she made us listen to the Australian accent English. Oh my gosh, I could not understand almost anything 🤣🤣
