3 things I have definitely missed when I was 10 years old
Don’t go through life, grow through life
- Eric Butterworth -
10 years old means that I was attending the first year of Junior High school or eventually Elementary school.
I have one clear memory from the Elementary school: I was selling to my classmates some drawings I made tracing ready-made drawings from Duck Tales. And I was selling them for the equivalent today of something around 1-2€. At that time, with this amount I would have been able to buy at least 4 coffee so with an actualized evaluation it should be around 3-5€ per drawing.
Not bad
But teachers told me to stop as it was not fair/correct doing it
WHY???
Luckily this early stop I received did not discourage me from pursuing my own ventures which went from good to bad BUT still, I had the courage to try chasing my dreams.
So the first teaching I would share with kids would be:
chase your dream: set a target, elaborate a path and then GO!!
Source: Author. Here, me and Mery were in Croatia at Krk National Park. The waterfall represents this first teaching: being fluid and persistent like the water in a waterfall.
The second teaching would be about reading a lot of self-development books. I started at the age of 24, as I felt much uncomfortable with society and I started reading a book about Body-Language, the one from Joe Navarro called “What Every-Body is saying”.
Self-development books are great tools to enhance independent attitude, expand the mind beyond the restricted teachings rom traditional school and trying to pursue personal targets.
Some books that definitely changed my life have been:
- Think and Grow rich by Napoleon Hill
- Relentless by Tim Grover
- Unscripted by MJ DeMarco
- Zero Limits by Joe Vitale
and a couple of books more, quite “hardcore” in its content about spiritual development, self-understanding and historical recurrences:
- The Yusa Guide To Balance
- The Mistery of the Shemitah

Another teaching would be about being theirselves avoiding too many compromises and being theirselves. Reading books and chasing dreams will put a lot of obstacles on the path of these young kids and there fore they must be aware of the amount of obstacles they will get and keep crushing it.

Trying to be liked from other people will make them disliked from the most important person: themselves as they would be living other’s people lives and not theirs creating during adolescence even some conflict of identity and a lot of subconscious rage that would become eventually anxiety and panic attacks when grown up.
In the end, I would definitely try to teach them to be self-motivated and trying to trigger their sincere aspiration through simple guides like books. Financial awareness, inclusion and several other values are simply coming naturally afterwards.
i never was introduced to development books while growing up because i couldn't afford it and i was not surrounded by people that read it.
These books can also be found for free in several place. You can start creating a library for the new generation incoming to educate them
