Weekend-Engagement #285: What's the weirdest thing you believed was true when you were a kid?

Now I know someone might not believe it, but it is all absolutely true, may I be struck by lightning on the spot. The most absurd thing I believed when I was a kid was that our garage was haunted by a ghost, and I remember it very clearly despite the many years because it was really an unbelievable thing. One morning, when I went to let out the chickens that slept in the garage, I noticed that a saucer had been moved from its place. Now, I’ve always been a great observer, I notice when things are different from usual, so I wasn’t wrong. I told my parents, but they didn’t pay attention to it, I was a kid so not trustable. That same evening, when it was time to put the chickens to sleep, they were more nervous than usual, another very strange thing because they were always very calm. The next morning I went back to let them out and the saucer had completely disappeared! It couldn’t be found anywhere! And there I immediately convinced myself that it had been a ghost, also because not long before an uncle had passed away and so I suspected it could be him. After all, what else could it be that moved and made objects disappear at night in a closed garage? Of course I told my parents and they thought it was a joke by a little kid. A couple of days passed and nothing else happened, until one morning I found other objects thrown on the floor from the table where they were. I was more and more convinced that there was a spiritual presence, I didn’t say anything to my parents because they wouldn’t believe it anyway, and I took one of their cameras, placed it on a shelf and covered it with a rag (except for the lens) because I obviously didn’t want it to be seen by the nocturnal ghost, and I went to sleep… In the morning I immediately ran to get the camera, opened the garage and the rag had been moved and was covering the lens! I got really scared because it was clear that the ghost had noticed the camera and had prevented the recording. I ran into the house to watch the footage and at a certain point you simply see the rag coming down and covering everything. Since there was date and time, my parents couldn’t claim I was making things up and I showed it to them as well. At that point they got scared too, and we all became frightened of the haunted garage… That same evening we placed two cameras in different spots, hidden and covered, and went to sleep… The next morning we went right away, one rag had been moved again but the other hadn’t. We went to watch the video, and scroll and scroll through the recording and… In the end the figure of a mouse appears! A family convinced their garage was haunted by ghosts because of a mouse that had made a somewhat hidden nest and was taking various objects there, probably looking for food…

It's funny to look back on our thoughts as a child from an adults perspective. That one little mouse made you so scared but as a child it's completely understandable. I used to think my grandmothers house was haunted, it would creak and groan making all sorts of noises. I was scared until I understood the concept of expansion and contraction with temperature conditions.

When we are kids we find the easiest and simple answer, the house makes a noise? It's haunted... Naive and innocent, but it's not that bad
