Good Beach Vibes
Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to share a fun little story from the beach the other day!

Good Beach Vibes
Every now and then, we get to do something completely random, but it ends up being a lot of fun and a nice thing to do!
We were at the beach the other day, where we normally try to go every week or two, and just doing our normal stuff. The little man and I wanted to go crabbing so we went to our favorite spot for that. We were doing our normal thing when we noticed that there was a family talking to my wife back at the beginning. Didn't really think anything of it but they started meandering on over and we ended up having a lot of fun!
We learned that they were from the midwest somewhere, which wasn't surprising as where we live it's a fairly popular and regular tourist destination but we don't really get to spend much time interacting with folks like that. For whatever reason though, they were super nice and fairly chatty. We ended up giving them a bit of an unofficial tour, which awes awesome!
The family was really cool, husband and wife with some early-teenage kids. The normal wholesome family stuff which was really great to see. They had never seen crabs before, and it was my son and I's specialty so we really gave them the national geographic edition of the local ecology LOL. We explained some different species, what ones were invasive, what ones were native and things like that. We showed them some of the different critters around like periwinkle's, limpets, crabs, hermit crabs, we even found some anemone's and a sea urchin which was awesome!
The family was great, super excited to learn just a little bit about the local ecology and stuff for free, and from people who live and spend a lot of time in the area. I don't know if they had more fun or if we did LOL it's great to be able to know an area really well and help explain it to people who are visiting, to give them the readers-digest version of cool things to do! My son was the star of the show, he had so much knowledge from what we've done, and the things he's learned in the various activities we've gotten him involved in.
We gave them some tips and tricks of places to see, what was really close and what had delicious food. They got an easy tour guide in 45 minutes, for the next few days of their trip!
I think this was for sure one of those things that was fun, but also a nice gesture to do. We certainly didn't have to spend time to hang out with them for a bit, knowing they're tourists and going to leave completely and likely never return, but it was a way to pass some good vibes forward, so that they can feel as welcome as they should be when you're visiting a destination.
I think taking these small bits of time to show someone, or a family, the brotherhood that we should be, is such an important thing we need to do in society. We have enough ugly shit going on in the world, it's time that we, if the people are good vibes themselves, help each other out. We may never see them again, but they will hopefully tell their friends about a short, 45-minute fun encounter they had at the beach with some random locals that happened to be really friendly. That's what life is about, I think!
What about you, have you had a random encounter that ended up turning into something sort-of meaningful? What was it? Let me know in the comments!

That was a fun encounter you had, plus giving a free tour guide was really helpful for someone who doesn't know the place. 😊
Yeah it was really great! I'm proud of my son, he did a great job with them!
Such a fun and wholesome beach encounter 🌊
It was! It helps restore faith in humanity that's for sure!
I miss having one of those but it does really leave a wholesome experience on both parties involved, they will probably remember it fir a long time and hopefully pay it forward in their own way, shape or form. People can be really reserved nowadays and getting more than a few sentences from them is rare. Kudos to you'll for opening up their understanding of the place :)
Yeah, when you just get a good energy from a family, you tend to just open up a bit and share in the positivity! My son was the star for sure, frequently running around finding things, giving them crabs and stuff. It was great!
Midwest folks are pretty cool like that if I do say so myself! :)
Yeah they are! I've worked with a lot of mid-westerners and they're awesome folk!
Question for you. How do you get crabs to come out of their little holes into the rock pools. One of my friends blows little bubbles in . Is this a good way. I've a 5 year old here and a beach nearby but have yet to see a crab even though we know they reside there
Well for us, the crabs are IN the rock pools. That's where all the food is. Some are for sure buried under the mud but we don't bother with those. There are mostly just clams in there anyways.
The rocks are teeming with crabs, it's awesome! Just gotta flip a couple over and you'll for sure get at least one, and sometimes you'll get a BIG one.
5 years old is the perfect age to spend some time crabbing. If you just bring a small kids shovel you can likely find the holes and dig them out. They will try to mostly run away more than anything, and will only pinch if you pick them up. A great pick up trick is to put your finger on the top of their shell, bring your thumb around the back of them, go under their belly and pick them up. Once you have them, flip them over and it sort-of puts them to sleep. Most of them will stop fighting, and even if they do, they don't last long and will stop after 2-3 seconds and you can hold them pretty easily! Good for grabbing them for the 5 year olds :D
Hahah I will let you know how I go. I shall call the first one Pinchy
You are too lucky, to go in such place with a lots of variety of crab. @cmplxty
Maybe you can post about different variety of a crab. 🤭🤭🤭
Here in the Philippines, the crab (that can be eaten safe) is one of the expensive seafood.
Yeah, we have lots of different crabs! They are sadly mostly invasive. We have one or two native species but those can only be found in the ocean, not on the rocks.
Crab is popular here too and expensive, but mostly because it's the big crabs you can eat. The small ones like this, I guess you probably could eat them but nobody does, even Asian people I've seen who will eat a lot of things, don't eat these crabs. I don't know if they are gross, but the birds love them LOL
Look, it's hard to find a moment where I've done that, but I'm sure I live in a country of hospitality and if someone asks me, I would surely help them just the same. Thank you for such a lovely experience.
That's good, I'm glad that you help your fellow citizen! It's important that we do these types of things, because we need to spread love and joy in the world as much as we can!
