My weekend on invisible man by Ralph Ellison.
Hi #hive friends, I spent my weekend reading this wonderful novel invisible man .
Invisible man by Ralph Ellison is one of my favourite literature books.
The novel invisible man was Ralph Ellison first novel. This book centers on reforming the issue of racism among the Whites and the blacks in America. It was published in United States in April 14th 1952. This book won the US nation book award for fiction. This made the author the first African-American writer to win the award.
The novel began when the Narrator whose name was not mentioned throughout the novel was explaining his condition of living in a manhole where he consume electricity which his stole from the monopolated Light and power, he consumes 1369 lights in the manhole. For him it makes him feel vital aliveness, because he had experienced social invisibility.
The narrator lives in south where there was much racism. After graduating from high school he got a scholarship to the state college for blacks. During his stay in the school he was appointed by Dr. bledsoe the head the college to be the driver of one the prominent school trustee Mr. Norton. One day he drove Mr Norton to a place where a man slept with his own daughter. After hearing the story Mr Norton felt uncomfortable and wanted a drink. The narrator took him to a brothel full of prostitute one thing left to another and Mr Norton was injured by some mentally ill people.
Dr Bledsoe was furious when he heard what happened to Mr Norton, so he decided to expel the narrator and sent him to the North with seven letters to several organization so that he can get a job. The narrator traveled to New York after several attempts to get a job, he realised that Dr. Bledsoe wrote bad things in those letters.
The narrator later got a job a liberty paint factory, he was first assign to the shipping department but he made a mistake in mixing the paint and he was relocated to the engine house to work with Lucius Brockway who was suspicious that the narrator wants to take his job. They had a misunderstanding which led to the explosion in the boiler room. The narrator was taken to the hospital where he regained consciousness.
He left the factory and went to live with a woman named Mary. He later got a job with the brotherhood organization. The made him their spokes man because he is good at giving speech. The growth of the brotherhood brought riots between them and Ras the Exhorter, a man who doesn't believe in the white man.
In one of the riots Ras the Exhorter wanted to kill the narrator which made him to flee and hide in underground hole two white men saw him and sealed the hole with the narrator inside. That was how he found himself in the hole which he is narrating from.
