DVD vs Blu-Ray Sales: DVDs still outselling Blu-Rays? But there is an interesting trend (June 2023)
Was sagt ihr dazu?

DVDs still sell better than Blu-Rays. But there is an interesting trend.
At the end of 2022, more DVDs were sold than Blu-Rays, even though Blu-Rays have been on the market for almost 20 years. That's surprising. Wouldn't have thought that.
If you count 4K Ultra HD and Blu-Rays together, the ratio is about 53:47.
But according to the latest figures from June 2023, the trend has reversed. DVDs account for 43.6%, Blu-Rays 38.7%, and 4K 17.7%. Together with 4K, more Blu-Rays are actually being sold now, but the DVD share is still surprisingly high. What's the reason for that?
Maybe there are still customers who don't have a Blu-Ray player, or it could be because DVDs are still being released and they are often significantly cheaper than the BD or 4K version.
DVDs are even often cheaper than buying the movie digitally. Hollywood has not yet found an answer to streaming. However, older films are partially licensed, time-limited to Netflix or Amazon Prime.
What do you guys think? Does anyone still collect DVDs/Blu-rays? Why are so many DVDs still sold instead of Blu-rays, even though Blu-rays are technically much better?

People are still buying DVDs
Ich habe noch einen CD Ständer zuhause. 😉

😂
May be peoples are not much aware of that.
Walkman cassettes are still for sale so we shouldn't be surprised. There are people for everything.
That's an interesting observation about the sales of DVDs and Blu-rays. I think there are a few reasons why DVDs are still selling so well.
Price: DVDs are often much cheaper than Blu-rays, especially when you're buying older movies.
Availability: DVDs are still widely available, even in stores that don't sell Blu-rays.
Compatibility: Many people still have DVD players, so they don't need to upgrade to Blu-ray just to watch their favorite movies.
Nostalgia: Some people may simply prefer the look and feel of DVDs, as they remind them of the days when physical media was the only way to watch movies.
I think DVDs are cheap and that's the reason for there rising sales.
I keep buying DVD and Blu ray, now more Blu ray when the price is low.
It's still the best way to watch what I want when I want.
Regards, good post, you have my vote.
thx, physical media still has some advantages, quality, and not all movies are available via streaming yet, and it also is nice to collect them, but I think the majority will move to streaming, because it's more convenient.
My local Thrift shops do sell used DVDs less than dirt cheap!
yeah, used dvds are really cheap, but as a collector I appreciate if a disc is still sealed and has no scratches. When Blu-Ray won the format war, I started collecting Blu-Rays instead of dvds though.
It may be because of the price. They are usually cheaper.
Not as much as I used to, but I like Blu-Ray
It's amazing to read your post the way now we see people see all the things inside their mobile and LCD but according to this report people still like to buy dvd a lot.
This is quite interesting
Well, we no longer use DVDs here like before. We use DSTV noe and I guess it is popular in every part of the world
I don't really collect DVDs or blu-rays but I think people prefer DVDs because it's easier to find a device to play it. I could be wrong though.
