Back with another of my silver German marks, and this time it's one of my favorites.

Just look at this bad ass chariot thingy

So, this is 10 Deutsche Mark coin minted in 1987 for the 30th anniversary since the Treaty of Rome (RΓΆmische VertrΓ€ge).

Never heard of the treaty? Well, it was a stepping stone to something you have probably heard of, something called the European Union

The Treaty of Rome, or EEC Treaty (officially the Treaty establishing the European Economic Community), brought about the creation of the European Economic Community (EEC), the best known of the European Communities (EC). The treaty was signed on 25 March 1957 by Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and West Germany, and it came into force on 1 January 1958. Originally the "Treaty establishing the European Economic Community", and now continuing under the name "Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union", it remains one of the two most important treaties in what is now the European Union (EU) source

As you can see there are 12 horses, which is as many members as the EU had back then.

So I guess the whole horse symbolism is about unity, working together as equals towards the same goal, blah blah blah. I feel to lazy to verify but I doubt I am wrong since all 12 horses drag the same thing which probably symbolizes the EU πŸ˜‚

As is typical for German commemorative marks, we have a sexy imperial rooster eagle on the other side of the coin

Why so angry fren?

And like with all 10 mark coins, we once again have 15.5 g of 0.625 purity. Not great, not terrible. On the bonus side, my piece is almost as if it just came out of the factory ^_^

You may love or hate the E.U. but I bet you will agree that this is a really beautiful piece!

Eu feels like it's falling these days. Both as actual union and in its original mission..turning into a bureaucratic shithole by the day.. Maybe it will be a cool EU memento in a decade from now πŸ˜‚

You see things from a very unique point of view; I really laughed reading your review. !LOL
After the several paragraphs above have seriously discussed the various meanings of the symbol, you suddenly discuss it as a beautiful work of art. Isn't that ridiculous?

I think you really have a great sense of humor, Mr. @trumpman.

It is a nice coin!

Hmm... if the EU fails, does that mean coins like this become collectors items and shoot up in price? Maybe I should buy some!

Haha, maybe. Hopefully it doesn't, cause it won't be the only thing going down. Despite its flaws, the current alternatives are not any better

Man, that's a dope coin!

didn't knew about that treaty and that 12 horses as council member is nicely representing it..

Great collection dear. But I don't understand that what's the meaning of these horses? As they are so many. I cant even count them.

That's a cool coin! You got horses and an eagle, nice! I love Europe, unfortunately bureaucrats ruin everything. We have the same problem in the US. Awesome coin buy!

It's a western problem. We have grown complacent, the fall is inevitable πŸ₯²

looks more like an horse orgy than chariot, maybe the dude who designed it was low key into that sort of thing :P

Maybe it will be a cool EU memento in a decade from now πŸ˜‚

Now that’s a cool ass coin. Nice

My buddy said that he got the information on that coin from the World Coin Bible. It has every coin produced ever in it by country. It’s over 2,000 pages and costs $800. They update it every five years.

I dont have this one but are German coins close to silver value everywhere? I thought they are only cheap for when you actually buy them in Germany.

Also that eagle really looks like a rooster.

I have a special deal with the shop I am buying em from so I get a really good price on them. In the past I would often get them for metal price in auctions :)

12 horses seem alot just to pull a chariot, perhaps more like a wagon team for function. Symbolically, I imagine it more as every horse pulling a different direction with the chariot going nowhere. Another sweet 9.5g of silver on your stack.

Nice chariot. I like the way they put so many horses on the same coin rather than just leaving one there but can that chariot really move with 12 horses leading it?
