Political arrest?

2 days ago, Pavel Durov, of the creators of the social medium called “Telegram” got arrested at the Paris airport, Le Bourget.
The official reason for his arrest is, money laundering, drug trade, gang forming, etc…

All because of the encryption Telegram uses to keep messages safe and the accounts on the platform private. And it is a fact that the application is used for all those accusations. But that is also the case for WhatsApp and X. And even Facebook and Instagram have groups that enable money laundering and drug trade, and gang forming is easy on these platforms.

But, yet, only Pavel Durov got arrested, and not Zuckerberg nor Musk were taken in. Even though they facilitate the same crimes.

So, why is that? And why France? Is it a political arrest?

Russia vs Nato?

One of the reasons people think that have to do with the arrest, is the fact that most of the communication between the Russian military at the front in Ukraine happens via Telegram. And Nato wants to put pressure on Russia through this arrest, by trying to sabotage their communications system.

It is a plausible reasoning and many Russians already have deleted their account on Telegram and now use other platforms.

The question now is, can we expect an arrest of Zuckerberg and Musk any time soon? I don’t think so…
