I work in a computer business center and at the same time, I teach in a private organization. The experience I have with higher education students makes me consider the fate of lecturers in universities. Some days ago, a student walked into our business centre and demanded to print his assignment. He gave me the job, and lo and behold, it was artificial intelligence-generated work. I printed the work for him and he left. Some minutes later, another lad worked in and demanded that he wanted to print. He handed over the work to me, it was the same topic with the same artificial intelligence answer. The following day, another three students came with identical answers. This made me wonder, how dependent, so many students are on artificial intelligence. On the other hand, I imagined how the lecturer would take the script of almost all the students to mark, only to realize that they were all of the same answers.
This is one of the threats to the education sector in my country. First of all, artificial intelligence technology is supposed not in any way to be a threat to society but a means to support and develop society; however, its misuse has made it become a threat to users. As a teacher, artificial intelligence has aided my teaching profession in many ways, it has helped me plan my lesson effectively and helps in delivering the lesson effortlessly. It would be out of place for a teacher to copy everything verbatim from an artificial intelligence platform and give it to my students without any input from my previous knowledge. Though many teachers and lecturers do that, I think it's wrong. Let it be that if such a teacher is completely ignorant of the topic he's dealing with then the use of machines can become inevitable.
It is high time, teachers began to accept these realities in schools because nothing can be done about it. Every day, tools are created to aid effective learning in schools and anyone who stands to stop it might soon lose his job because the level of aid and elucidation brought about by artificial intelligence technology is beyond human comprehension. Instead of fighting it, partnering with it makes great sense.
In one of my classes with my students, I gave them an instruction never to use AI-generated answers for my assignment, only for some of them to stubbornly use AI and make some amendments to it. I have realized that no matter how strict a teacher might want to be in stopping the student from using AI in assignments and projects, the student will always have their way out. No sane society fights technology and succeeds so long as it solves human problems, the people will have a way of flagrantly making use of it.
Artificial Intelligence is a light in the dark world of education, it has opened the eyes of many to the things that hitherto seem impossible. More of these technologies are unveiling and there is nothing anyone can do about it.
