Is Chasing a Max Set Worth It? | Splinterlands #434

Let us cut through the Conclave Arcana hype and focus on the bottom line: how much will it cost to max out a regular foil Conclave Arcana set? And based on how recent sets have priced out, is it worth it?

Sitting Out, but Still Watching Closely

As I mentioned in last week's Conclave Arcana post, I will not be getting involved in the Conclave Arcana, which is the same as I did with Rebellion. After getting burned during Chaos Legion, I have lost the appetite for large-scale pack openings. But that does not mean I am not excited for what the set brings to the game and community. We have seen SPS pump loads the past few weeks, and I am all for it. That said, I am interested in how much it would take to max out a regular foil set for Conclave Arcana, especially when compared to previous sets like Rebellion, Untamed, Chaos Legion, Dice, and Riftwatchers.

What Does a Max Regular Foil Set Typically Cost?

Thanks to the amazing resource at splintercards.com, we've got clear pricing data for each set. Here is a quick comparison:

So, what does this tell us? Conclave Arcana is very likely to fall in a similar range of Rebellion in terms of total cost. If it ends up mirroring Rebellion's structure, we could be looking at another $6k+ price tag for a full max regular foil set.

How Many Packs Do You Need?

The rule of thumb for getting a maxed regular foil set (without counting black foils or golds) is around 400 bcx per common, 115 bcx per rare, 46 bcx per epic, and 11 bcx per legendary. In standard packs, each contains five cards, with drop rates roughly:

  • Common: ~70%
  • Rare: ~25%
  • Epic: ~4%
  • Legendary: ~1%

Based on previous sets, to max out a full set of regular foil cards, you would need about 2.2k to 2.5k standard packs. At $4 per pack, which is about $8.8k to $10k. And that is if you open your own packs and get a decent spread of probabilities. You could be luckier or worse off depending on RNG, or you could just go straight to the market later and buy individual cards, which could be more cost-effective.

And that leads to my broader point: splinterlands is not a cheap game to play at a competitive level. Whether you are buying packs or buying on the secondary market, it is a substantial investment both in time and money. But if you are in it for the long haul, if you engage with the game, contribute to the community, and stay consistent, there is potential value to be had.

Final Thoughts

I will be sitting Conclave Arcana out, and good luck to those who will be diving in. It does look like a fantastic set, but just go in with your eyes open, especially if you are chasing a full set, as it will probably set you back a few pennies. Either way, it is an exciting time for splinterlands, and Conclave Arcana is the hype the game has been yearning for the past few years.

MAX set is never worth it. but maxing up strategically, summoners first, then at least common and rare, is always good. Legendary max up does not worth the effort.
