Hitting 8k HP! Hive Power Up Day (Decemeber)

(Edited)

Here we are, the 1st of December, which means that not only is Christmas around the corner, but I am also coming very close to hitting 2 years on chain, and I'm only 30 days away from getting my yearly badge for posting every day of the year.

Posting Everyday For 1 Year

Do I think I've benefited from making the call to post every day and try to hit that goal? Yes, I do think I've benefited, in three ways.

  • First of all, I think I benefited by how much my HP has grown. This day last year, I had about 1,800HP, so I've seen some pretty steep inclines.
  • Second, I've managed to meet more people by being active, and in general just showing up around the chain from my posting and commenting.
  • Thirdly, my writing has improved so much in this space of time. It's also good to be able to write on command, as opposed to writing when I feel like it.

Has it been stressful, or caused a bit of havoc in my everyday life? Not really, if I didn't want to do it, I wouldn't and I would choose my sanity over the task any day.

While it has been a challenge, it has been a good challenge to aim for, and now that I'm close to achieving it I feel delighted.

A Lot of What I Tend To Write Is Fiction

Because that is the main type of content I produce, I have noticed a big impact on my ability to create, and my writing skills in general. For that, I am very grateful to have found Hive.

Usually, a post takes me about 1-2 hours to write, obviously depending on what it is and whether or not I'm in the zone. Sometimes a post can take less time of course. I find that the majority of my posts tend to get written after 9:30-10 o'clock at night - since it's the only time I have to myself to get some stuff done.

Moving into the new year I am going to cut my writing down to 2 or 3 days a week, so I can focus that couple of hours in the evening on editing what I have already written.

NaNoWriMo
So, this November, I decided to tackle another novel, however, I decided after the first chapter to bring that back down to being a Novella.

A Night In The Western Wastes - Part 1

Novellas, being shorter, means I will have an easier time editing it myself, it will be cheaper - potentially - to hire an editor to give it one final run-through after my own, to then go into self-publishing.

It was a success, and I'm currently on the 4th chapter of it and have another 3 - 4 chapters to go. I could become a novel by the time I'm finished, but I don't think it will.

It has been pretty fun, a good all-round experience, and I'm happy to be doing something more long-form than just self-contained short stories. Although, the short stories are better in a way because I'm able to get the idea down, and put it away with no drive to re-visit it unless I want to.

On The Power-up

In one year, I have managed to raise my HP by 6,200HP which is insane.

This isn't just through posting, because I have bought and powered up around 2,500 - 3,000 HP in the last year, but still. The growth my posting has brought my account is fairly astonishing as far as I'm concerned, and I never thought I'd see anything like it.

So, this is what I started with today.

Here's some Hive I had ready for the power up, but due to earnings I didn't need to use it all. What I have left over I'd like to put into some Layer 2 coins I have my eyes on.

Due to the want to do some investing I powered up 60.

I've hit 8k, and I just love to see even numbers. I'm over the moon I've made it this far in such a short space of time.

Due to my reputation being over 70 - close to 71 now - I don't get rewards for participating in HPUD. I do love the day in it though, and decided to carry on this tradition for the fun of it, and the habit I suppose.

That's some seriously impressive growth ! It's a reflection of the time and effort you've put in, so you deserve every little bit of it 😀

Thanks so much @alonicus

It hasn't been easy to do, and somedays I'm that wrecked by time I start writing that I think I should just let the daily posting drop. I'm glad I haven't so far, and seeing this kind of growth just helps to drive me forward.

Thank you so much, it hasn't been easy, but I'm delighted about it.

I'm so happy that I found Hive - almost - two years ago.

Fingers crossed man. I'm thinking that I should set up some other social media accounts just for the stories I write, where I can upload short videos, pictures, and links back here to Hive.

With everything else going on I haven't had a chance to. One problem I'm finding is, I keep putting things on the long finger, I'm trying to change that though.

Congratulations on hitting the 8K Hive Power mark!!!! I like rounded numbers and pair numbers too! 😂
Accumulating over 6K HP in one year is huge!! You did over 4X in just one year! That's awesome!

Any plans for 2024, or it's too early to think about that? :)

Yeah man, I find it crazy when thinking about it. I did notice when I got to the 5k mark it started steam rolling and increasing much faster than it had previously.

You know man, 2024 is a tough one, I'm getting some money soon from finishing a project and I'm going to put that into HP + picking up a few other coins. Also, when Christmas is out of the way, I want to focus on buying some more.

I'm thinking of cutting my Hive posting down to 2-3 days a week, but I'm wondering if I wouldn't be better off keeping it up, and continuing to grow my HP. It's a tough one I'll have to think about a bit more.

I did notice when I got to the 5k mark it started steam rolling and increasing much faster than it had previously.

That happens for numerous reasons... One is that you have more stake, of course... But, the "side effect" is that people appreciate you supporting their posts and efforts, and others upvote you more! Many people forget about the power of "manual curation" with your own stake!

I tend to overthink things and as I can see, you maybe do the same... It will come if we are doing it right... :)

Have a great weekend!

Yeah, I tend to overthink things sometimes haha

That does make sense in a way man, I figured it must be that. Also, I think the curation rewards help to do the steamroll effect to a certain extent too.

You too man, have a good one!
