I almost made a HUGE mistake when preparing my assignment.

As you may already know, I am currently attending my MSc in Blockchain & Digital Currency (due to be completed next year). I have done a number of assignments over the past couple of years and every time it is a joy to create something new, but a challenge too!

Apart from my Master's Degree, I am enrolled to another (self-paced) course, where I had to create an assignment about a Web3 project that we should research and present.

First thing I did, was to create a list of Web3 - NFT - Metaverse projects and I selected one of them. The reason for my choice was that this project would give back a percentage of the earnings to Mother Nature.

How cool was that?

That seemed to be a great project, serving a good cause and they would be doing something very good for the environment too!

I was very happy, so I did not look any further.

I started researching and answering the questions of the essay.

The questions were about ..

  • The concept of the project
What was it? Why was it valuable? How does it differ from other projects?

  • Team
Important. Who is the team behind this? Are they experienced? What do they do?

  • Technology.
    What technology is being used?

  • Business Model
Will this be a sustainable model? How will they make money?

  • Community

OOOPS

I had written half my assignment.
And then I thought of visiting their social media accounts.

Twitter: I was so sad to see it dead..
The last update was posted in August 2022 ..

I thought I should also visit their discord channel ..
Guess what
Their most recent announcement was made in September 2022

What does this tell us?

The project is d e a d

And I wasted all that time to write about it.

I was so sorry, but on the other hand I had learnt a good lesson.

If I ever wish to investigate / analyze a project .. I should first check out its socials and then everything else.

How about you? Do you have any specific procedure you follow when you first visit a project? I usually check its team too. I want to see if they are real people and I check the roadmap so that I can see how far away we are from the completion of the project.

That sounds like a great course. I also check their socials and see their development track record. Check if some of the claims are true. Look how they intend to make money.

Yea you made mistake but I kinda don't blame you cause at least you visited their main website and it was their fault not to include all information right there.

Thank you for your input, I mostly agree with you.
I would think of contacting the team if I saw that the NFTs exist. But the roadmap was way off, because they were supposed to be ready in the last Quarter of 2022.
I was so sorry, because it seemed like a good project.
Thanks again for your comment!

Yes. 100% … check them out on Twitter / X.com , Instagram, Facebook and Discord… check their hashtag #Companyname … if they don’t have posts with hashtags from today you know they are a dead project. You only want to invest your hard earned dollars in a company that is active today. Not last week or a few months ago. To be relevant they need to be posting every single day.

I also check out its socials to be sure that whatever news I get and spread comes directly from the person or project I'm talking about
