Bitcoin makes up one-third of investor crypto portfolios in 2025

Bitcoin now constitutes about one-third of investor cryptocurrency portfolios in 2025, making up approximately 30.95% of total crypto assets held by investors as of May 2025, up from 25.4% in November 2024.

This increase is largely driven by rising institutional adoption, favorable U.S. crypto regulations, and the growing popularity of spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs). Bitcoin has become the largest single asset held by cryptocurrency investors, with institutions significantly increasing their Bitcoin holdings, while retail investors have reduced their Bitcoin allocations in favor of altcoins such as XRP.

Ethereum also plays a major role but at a smaller scale, with a portfolio share around 8.5%, and together Bitcoin and Ethereum now control nearly 59% of non-stablecoin crypto holdings.

Meanwhile, XRP has emerged as the third-largest non-stablecoin asset, with its portfolio share doubling from 1.29% to about 2.42% due to growing expectations of a Ripple spot ETF approval. Solana's share has declined notably during this period.

So Bitcoin dominates about one-third of crypto portfolios in 2025 and a preferred asset among institutional investors, while retail investors diversify more into altcoins with strong ETF prospects.

Strong but that’s retail data, right? For institutionals the BTC part is much higher I think. 80-90%
