Iconic Green Tech Innovations

Climate change, pollution, carbon dioxide emissions, limited resources, and other environment-related concerns have been an issue for years prompting some companies (and even governments) to make a shift and transition from fossil fuels and create more sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions (and products) to reduce or minimize carbon footprints and further depletion of resources. Among those that we know already existed for a while are these two iconic green tech innovations:
👉Electric Vehicles for Greener Mobility
The transportation industry is one of the highest contributors to global air pollution and gas emissions, but thanks to companies at the forefront of producing sustainable EVs like Tesla, GM, Nissan, NIO, Volvo, and other automakers, the emissions have the potential to be greatly reduced.
There is increasing popularity of EVs as a clean and eco-friendly transportation alternative which has sparked the rise in the production of EVs these recent years. Apart from being more energy-efficient than traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, EVs have zero tailpipe emissions hence, they help reduce air pollution.
However, the costs of EVs and the lack of infrastructures (charging facilities) in some places including my country discourage people from choosing them over traditional vehicles. I am hopeful however that this will change in the next few years.
👉Solar Panels for Solar Energy
I think most of us know this already as it has been utilized for decades and they are considered iconic symbols of green technology. Harnessing the sun's energy and converting it into electricity to provide a renewable and clean energy source not only for residential homes but also for offices and businesses.
One of the largest and most sustainable (energy-efficient) buildings in the world is Apple's headquarters (The Ring) in California which houses over 12k employees. This is an extensive application of the solar energy solution. The building is 100% powered by solar energy (about 75% supplied by the installations on its roof and 25% from its off-site solar farm in Monterey County).
It is said that this is the biggest product that Apple has ever made yet that shows its commitment to great design, technology, innovation, and sustainability.¹
The initial investments in solar panels and their installations in homes or businesses can be quite costly but the long-term benefits and potential savings can offset them. According to my quick research, the cost here in the Philippines ranges from $4k to $10k for an average residential home.
These days, not only do we see solar panels in buildings but they are also being utilized and installed on municipal streets and highways. There are also solar-powered gadgets portable radios, mobile phone chargers, garden and outdoor lights, solar keyboards, solar backpacks, solar headphones, and what have you. There's even a solar-powered weeding robot! The advancement of technology will surely bring more uses of solar energy.
Summing Up
EVs and Solar Panels (Solar Energy) are probably two of the most known solutions to reducing carbon footprints and providing clean and renewable energy to societies, that's why I chose to share them. Of course, there are many other green tech solutions and products these days in various industries from small to large scales. There's vertical farming (agriculture), green fuel (in aviation), and smart grid technology among others that can benefit the economy and the environment.
While there are still some challenges associated with these solutions, we can imagine (and hope) that with the advancing technology and innovation, they will be minimized in the coming years.

Ah solar panels, we are thinking of installing at home to save electricity consumption..though upon checking it wasn't that cheap 🤣.
So maybe in the next year's
Yeah. Not cheap especially if your house is big 😉

There was a time when I used to think that type installation of solar energy was cheap until I have a friend who used it
It was very expensive and needs ultimate maintenance
I hope your friend is enjoying the savings he is making from having solar panels installed in his home :)

Solar panels installation is so good but installation of it here is so costly. Thanks for sharing
It's the same here and everywhere. Hope that the cost will get a little cheaper in the coming years.
The crazy thing is that even today with all the technological advance and better energy systems still exist coal electricity production.
Yes. There is still a lot of work to be done. I wonder if the time will ever come when electricity production will be 100% eco-friendly.
I think we get there, main problem today is the night production and that can be cover if we use the Tide and waves movement to generate energy.
This is the need of the hour. These solar panels consume the sun's energy to generate electricity, offering a renewable and eco-friendly alternative to conventional power sources. As a result, other fuel will become save. Everyone is try now to fix these panels in home. This is the future now.
Yeah. Let's hope the panels and their installations will get cheaper so most people can afford them.

Using the solar energy is the best eco friendly possible ways to produce energy. To reduce pollution we should try to make the best use of renewable energy.
That's right Inti. Although the initial cost is not cheap 😅

Here have some that's using EVs. But I heard like you mention, the lack of charging facilities is one of their concern. And also it takes long time to fully charge.😬
Yes, those are some of the concerns that keep people from going into EVs.

Nag-iipon na din kami ng solar powered lights and electric fan. Hehe.
Yung mga EVs na nakikita usually, hindi daw ganun katibay.
That's good! We need them talaga.
And oo, I wonder how long nagla-last yung battery lifespan ng EVs.

😀 Good to go, I already have a solar system in my house. We power our lamps, fans, cable and television with it.
I'm looking forward to getting the one that can power the freezer.
Whoa! That's amazing. You're close to having a sustainable power source!

Personally I like the idea of being able to walk on the footpath next to a busy street and not have to constantly breathe in the cumulative toxic fumes of all the ICE vehicles using the road. It can be quite disgusting in the city I live, some intersections are just horrible. I was born in a more regional area about 3 hours drive from the city, where the air is actually fresh. I talk about the problem to people born in the city and they don't understand what I mean... they cannot tell — too used to it. That's what I have to share on the topic of EVs, anyway 😌
As for photovoltaics, they're brilliant. No fuel inputs required to generate electricity. Amazing. Granted, most panels top out at around 30% efficiency max, but this will increase in time with more research and development. It's all a bit expensive of course, but it's possible to buy everything yourself and run an off-grid battery/solar system for a few thousand. It does depend on how much electricity your household uses, though.
Thanks for a thought-provoking read.
Yeah, people in the city seem to have been used to what they breathe and could not relate, especially if they never set foot in the countryside. One who did can easily tell the difference.
I am also hopeful that this will improve over time. The costs can be a challenge for most so let's also hope for much more affordable ones in the future.
Thank you too, for your amazing input :-)
