Celebrating the 8th Hive birthday

Hi,

Today is a special day for me. Exactly 8 years ago, I opened my account here. I still remember the exact day and why I did it. On that day, there was a mass redundancy at the company I worked for and I was on probation, so I had to leave too. It was bad, very bad, because I was made redundant just before Christmas.

I then went home, spoke to my wife and looked for ways to earn money until I found another job. My wife was also unemployed at the time. I played online poker, even with good results, but I didn't want to expose myself to the swing. In poker, it can happen that you lose over a longer period of time even though you play mathematically perfectly.

And so, after searching the internet, I came across this blockchain. I had already mined some LTCs at the university where I was teaching. I liked the idea and tried a few things. Fortunately, I found a much better paying job within 5 days and had a good start to the new year. Then I didn't write anything until May.

In June 2017, we were at a concert where a post was written. One of the top supporters wrote to me, he was also at the concert. He supported most of the new people, with a delegation of 500, so that you could also use the slider for the vote strength.

Then came the regulars' meetings, where you could get to know so many new people. All different, with different outlooks on life, but with a common interest: this blockchain.

Participated in various conferences not only in Germany, but also in Luxembourg, France and Romania.

Heute ist ein besonderer Tag für mich. Vor genau 8 Jahren habe ich hier mein Konto eröffnet. Ich erinnere mich noch genau an den Tag und warum ich das getan habe. An diesem Tag gab es eine Massenentlassung in der Firma, in der ich gearbeitet habe, und ich war in der Probezeit, also musste ich auch gehen. Es war schlimm, sehr schlimm, weil ich kurz vor Weihnachten entlassen wurde.

Ich bin dann nach Hause gefahren, habe mit meiner Frau gesprochen und nach Möglichkeiten gesucht, Geld zu verdienen, bis ich eine andere Arbeit gefunden habe. Meine Frau war damals auch arbeitslos. Ich habe online Poker gespielt, auch mit guten Ergebnissen, aber ich wollte mich nicht dem Swing aussetzen. Beim Poker kann es passieren, dass man, obwohl man mathematisch perfekt spielt, über einen längeren Zeitraum verliert.

Und so bin ich nach einer Suche im Internet auf diese Blockchain gestoßen. Ich hatte bereits einige LTCs an der Universität, an der ich unterrichtete, geschürft. Ich fand die Idee gut und habe ein paar Dinge ausprobiert. Glücklicherweise habe ich innerhalb von 5 Tagen einen viel besseren bezahlten Job gefunden und konnte gut ins neue Jahr starten. Dann habe ich bis Mai nichts mehr geschrieben.

Im Juni 2017 waren wir auf einem Konzert, wo ein Post entstanden ist. Einer der Top Supporter hat mir geschrieben, er war auch auf dem Konzert. Er hat die meisten neuen Leute unterstützt, mit einer Delegation von 500, damit man auch den Schieberegler für die Vote-Stärke nutzen konnte.

Dann kamen die Stammtische, wo man so viele neue Leute kennenlernen konnte. Alle unterschiedlich, mit verschiedenen Lebensauffassungen, aber mit einem gemeinsamen Interesse: diese Blockchain.

Nham teil an verschiedenen Tagungen nicht nur in Deutschland, sondern auch in Luxemburg, Frankreich und Rumänien.

In September 2017, I decided to buy more tokens and plough them up. It was a lot for us, I ploughed up 5,000, which was our entire savings. In the end it was worth it because after a few years, at a worse rate, I had the stake back. That was the deal with my wife, in 3 years we would have the money back.

In 2018, I went to Hivefest for the first time, in Krakow, where I also gave someone else a ticket as a gift. Life and the blockchain were good to me, and I also wanted to make someone happy.

It came back in 2022 because someone had given me a ticket as a gift. Without this gift, I wouldn't have been able to take part. So I'm very grateful for the support.

You may have noticed that I haven't mentioned any accounts. There are so many people I have to mention, people I can and must count among my friends in these eight years. People I will always enjoy seeing again. Many memories of wonderful moments. I believe in the future of blockchain and think that we will be celebrating a double-digit figure in two years' time. I hope I can invite a few people over then to do it right.

Im September 2017 habe ich beschlossen, mehr Token zu kaufen und aufzupowern. Es war viel für uns, ich habe 5.000 aufgepowert, was unsere gesamten Ersparnisse waren. Am Ende hat es sich gelohnt, denn nach ein paar Jahren, zu einem schlechteren Kurs, hatte ich den Einsatz wieder. So war der Deal mit meiner Frau, in 3 Jahren sollten wir das eingesetzte Geld wieder haben.

2018 war ich zum ersten Mal auf Hivefest, in Krakau, wo ich auch jemand anderem das Ticket verschenkt habe. Das Leben und die Blockchain waren gut zu mir, und ich wollte auch jemandem eine Freude machen.

Im Jahr 2022 kam er zurück, weil mir jemand ein Ticket geschenkt hatte. Ohne dieses Geschenk hätte ich nicht teilnehmen können. Deshalb bin ich sehr dankbar für die Unterstützung.

Ihr habt vielleicht bemerkt, dass ich keine Konten erwähnt habe. Es gibt so viele Menschen, die ich erwähnen muss, Menschen, die ich in diesen 8 Jahren zu meinen Freunden zählen darf und muss. Menschen, die ich immer wieder gerne sehen werde. Viele Erinnerungen an schöne Momente. Ich glaube an die Zukunft der Blockchain und denke, dass wir in 2 Jahren eine zweistellige Zahl feiern werden. Ich hoffe, dass ich dann ein paar Leute einladen kann, um es richtig zu machen.

So approximately six months/half year ago, I celebrated my seventh year on the Steem/Hive blockchain.

And next year I will also celebrate my eighth year on the Steem/Hive blockchain.

It has been a mixed bag experience.
Hive is difficult to learn and once learned you also need to learn unwritten rules held by powerful people.
It's a balancing act and I have not yet learned to balance it perfectly.
But I have so far survived, but that could all change tomorrow.
Our futures seem to rise and fall on the whims of a few.

Regardless I believe in the promise and potential of Hive.
I still support the community and do what I can to promote it.
Thanks for noticing my upcoming anniversary.
I try not to celebrate birthdays or anniverseries in posts because it brought me only grief in the past.
BUt I really like to celebrate the anniverseries of others, as such dedication and fidelity deserves celebration and reward.
I hope your network expanded in the last week, and your success continues to grow.

8 years is a very long time, it is almost impossible to keep yourself motivated and keep writing for so many years. Yet, by overcoming this challenge, you have opened the door for people like me and given the message that “you too can do it”. Congratulations on completing 8 years

You got in a little over six months before I did. I was lurking on Steemit since about Spring of 2016, but wouldn't take the plunge until July 2017. Your start reminds me of a number of people who sacrificed and made an early investment on this blockchain. This says it all:
