As I have become accustomed to doing, I watched a movie that took me back to my childhood, when my cousin would stay over to watch movies with my sister and me, and that movie was Aquamarine. It never hurts to remember this type of film, which is refreshing and reminds us to value the bonds we create as children.
Aquamarine ….
Also known in Latin America as Mi amiga la sirena, it was released in 2006, directed by Elizabeth Allen and starring Sara Paxton, Emma Roberts, and JoJo. It is based on the book Aquamarine by Alice Hoffman, and the film is considered a romantic comedy for children.
What is the plot about?…
The story follows two friends, Claire and Hailey, who live in a small coastal town in Florida. However, they are facing a dilemma, as Hailey's mother has been transferred to Australia for work, which would mean the two of them would have to separate. After a stormy night and a deep desire to change the dilemma she found herself in, a miracle occurs.
Claire and Hailey meet a mermaid named Aquamarine, who, after the storm and ending up in the pool of a beach club, ends up telling the girls that she has run away from home because her father wants her to marry a sea horse, which she refuses because she wants to experience what they call “love” and wants to prove it to him at all costs. However, the mermaid has a clear goal: a boy named Raymond. The young friends did not agree at first, as he is also the love interest of both of them. However, when she tells them that by helping a mermaid, they will have a wish granted, they end up accepting the proposal.
Will our young mermaid be able to prove to her father that love does exist? Will Claire and Hailey have to part ways?
Personal opinion
I remember that, at the time, the film captivated me with its mermaid theme and all that. I've always been drawn to mythology, but when I watched it again, I realized that it's not really original. It's a cliché with a simple plot, without much fuss, that envelops you in the theme of friendship in a fun and sweet way, making you feel the value of friends. In addition, it also conveys a very important lesson: learning to let go and that goodbyes are not always the end of everything, but rather the beginning of new stages in life.
The relationship between these three friends felt very genuine, the chemistry between the actors was beautiful, and in addition to their performances being well suited to their characters, their personalities were clearly differentiated. To be honest, this is not a film for a general audience; it is clearly aimed at a very young audience, so older viewers may find it unentertaining and predictable. Even so, the atmosphere and settings are handled in accordance with the tender and charming vibes that the plot sought to convey.

Despite the film's flaws, I have very fond memories of it, which is why I am fond of it and find it refreshing in a way. At the very least, it is entertaining and a good way to pass the time, and I find Aquamarine's witticisms and interactions with her friends very charming.

Como me he acostumbrado, me vi una película que me remontó a mi niñez, cuando mi prima se quedaba a ver películas con mi hermana y mi persona y esa fue Aquamarine, así que nunca esta de más recordar este estilo de filme que son refrescante y que nos recuerda a valorar esos lazos que creamos de niños.

Conocida también en Hispanoamérica Mi amiga la sirena, fue estrenada en el año 2006, bajo la dirección de Elizabeth Allen y protagonizada por Sara Paxton, Emma Roberts y JoJo. Esta basada en el libro Aquamarine de Alice Hoffman y el filme es considerado una comedia romántica infantil.
¿De qué va la trama?…
La historia sigue a dos amigas, Claire y Hailey, las cuales viven en un pequeño lugar costero de Florida, sin embargo, están enfrentando un dilema, pues la mamá de Hailey la trasladaron a Australia por el trabajo, por lo que eso indicaría la separación de ambas. Tras una noche de tormenta y un deseo profundo de cambiar en el dilema en el que se encontraba, un milagro ocurre.
Claire y Hailey conocen a una sirena llamada Aquamarine, quien tras la tormenta y parar en la piscina de un club de la playa, les termina comentando a las chicas que se ha escapado de casa, pues su padre quiere que se case con un caballo de mar, a lo cual rechaza, porque ella quiere experimentar eso a lo que llaman “amor” y quiere demostrárselo a como de lugar. Pero, la sirena tiene un objetivo claro, un chico llamado Raymond, las jóvenes amigas no estaban de acuerdo en un inicio, pues también es el interés amoroso de ambas, no obstante, al comentarles que al ayudar a una sirena se les cumple un deseo, por lo que terminan aceptando la propuesta.
¿Será capaz nuestra joven sirena de probarle a su padre que el amor si existe? ¿Claire y Hailey no tendrá que separarse?
Opinión personal
Recuerdo que, en ese entonces, la película me cautivó mucho por el tema de las sirenas y todo eso, siempre me he sentido atraída por esto de lo mitológico, sin embargo, al volverla a ver, pues original, que se diga original no lo es; es un cliché con una trama sencilla, sin mucho rollo y que te envuelve en el tema de la amistad, de una manera divertida y dulce, haciéndote sentir ese valor de las amigas. Aunado que, también te transmite un aprendizaje muy importante: el aprender a soltar y que las despedidas no siempre es el final de todo, es el comienzo de nuevas etapas de la vida.
Realmente la relación de estas tres amigas se sentía muy genuina, la química entre los actores era hermosa, además de las interpretaciones adecuadas a sus personajes, se diferenciaban claramente sus personalidades. Siendo sincera, no es un filme para un publico general, se nota que es más para una audiencia muy juvenil, por lo que los más adultos pueden que no la considere entretenida y predecible; aun así, la atmosfera y los escenarios son manejados de acuerdo a las vibras tiernas y encantadoras que buscaba la trama transmitir.

-Tono y atmosfera acorde a la trama.

A pesar de las fallas de este filme, tengo muy bonitos recuerdos con esta película, por eso le tengo cariño y que es refrescante de algún modo, por lo menos para pasar el rato entretiene, además de que las ocurrencias de Aquamarine y sus interacciones con sus amigas se me hacen muy bonitas.

Recuerdo que me gustaba bastante esta película pero ciertamente caía en demasiados clichés. La cuestión es que creo que para la época, este tipo de historias estaba de moda.
Ésta particularmente me recordaba mucho a H2O, la serie también de sirenas adolescentes. Eran historias inocentes, ligeras y con mensajes motivacionales, pero sí, muy muy simples. Supongo que es porque están dirigidas a un público muy joven al que querían impresionar más con el cuento de la magia de la sirena y no tanto por la trama en sí
Oh Dios! me hiciste volver a mi adolescencia, yo también vi H2O, me encantaba, solo que los últimos capítulos se me hizo difícil seguirle el hilo, porque no los encontraba bien, pero aun así me gustaba. 😊
Síii, al final la serie perdió un poco el rumbo, pero era muy entretenida. Además la magia de la idea de convertirse en sirena creo que era el gancho que tenía
Hola @yaslenysofia , me encanto tu post sobre Aquamarine, realmente aunque es una pelicula juvenil con un tema cliché, creo que es fresca, inocente , divertida y te lleva automáticamente a tu infancia o adolescencia. Son de esas cosas que te entretienen cada cierto tiempo.
