📺 Squid Game Season 3 (2025) | A Setup for Spinoff Series

About Squid Game

To everyone that enjoys Squid Game, I can highly recommend the Two Seasons of Alice in Borderland!
Squid Game Season 2
Season 1 already dates back from 2021 while there were no real plans for a 2nd season and the creator actually didn't want to make it from what I've read. However, with the great success and the money doing what it does, the 2nd season was put in production. It took over 3 years to get it released though and the 2nd season was kind of split in 2 Half Seasons with 7 & 6 episodes and the story that kind of stopped while it was fully ongoing. It also feels that it was an 'obligation' both from the story point of view and giving the surviving actors a job again.
The only real thing I enjoyed about Season 2 were the actual games which were Red Light Green Light bit with the difference of player 456 tries to help everyone.
The 2nd game with the playground games were ok and I really liked the 3rd game with the caroussel and the number rooms. However, the season itself was kind of a letdown.
Squid Game Season 3
Or better season 2.5 was more of the same with rather generic predictable plotlines as you know everyone will die except for 1 person and the main question is how it will happen.
If anything I still enjoyed the setting of Squid Game and the 3 games were kind of ok even though none of them really put a smile on my face (which was the case with each of the games in Alice In Borderland). The plotline outside of the games felt rather arbitrary and an obligation, same for the guests which wasn't that convincing and the plotline with that fenale guard. Overall I kind of enjoyed watching it still but at the same time was left rather underwhelmed and Squid Game for me will always be what it was in the 1st Season. I'm still happy to give it a good 7/10. The ending was also pretty clear a setup for there to be an US version of this Series and maybe some other spinoffs.
Conclusion
I still enjoyed the final 6 episodes of Squid game but at the same time the magic was kind of gone as it all felt more like an obligation instead of something that really was planned all along. It's good that things concluded and maybe a US version that start from scratch might be somethig that revives the series. Right now, I'm mainly looking forward to September 25th when the new season of Alice in Borderland will be released!

I only saw the first three episodes of this series back then and I didn't find it that exciting, I don't know why. I haven't watched more of it. Maybe I should give it a try and watch more episodes.
I would say if you didn't like it by episode 3 it might just not be something for you. I would say give Alice In Borderland a try but if Squid Game is not for you this likely also won't be.
Honestly, I'm more into anime than series. I guess I'm too Otaku 😅

It's one of my favourite series although it could have ended better (I feel it left questions up in the air and was a bit rushed) it ended better than I thought it would. I'm going to miss this series
I'm quite sure multiple spin off shows are coming our way starting with an US version. It should be interesting to see what they are able to do with the concept. I think I always will enjoy a show with games where life or death is at stake.
I watched the second season and it was a disappointment for me, and I can understand why you called it season 2.5 in your review because the second season was completely unfinished. I will watch the series, but it probably won't get more than a 6 from me.
If anything, the 2nd & 3rd season more felt like an obligated continuation as it was such a massive success instead of a good story as the priority. That's one of the things I like about Alice in Borderland, 2 seasons & perfectly finished & explained story with games that were much more fun and inventive compared to squid game.
