Movie Review: Love at First Sight (2023), A Modern Rom-Com That Feels Real

Love at First Sight is, before anything else, a love story, and that’s exactly what you need to remember before starting to watch this. If you enjoy romantic comedies, emotional timing, and fate playing its quiet little games, then read on. This is a movie to watch both alone, or with your partner for a light afternoon.

✈️ The Story (Without Spoilers)

Two strangers connect on a flight to London, only to be separated by a twist of fate. A reunion seems improbable, but love has a way of defying the odds.

The movie starts with a missed flight and a chance meeting at an airport. Hadley and Oliver, sit next to each other on a transatlantic flight from New York to London. It all started starts as casual conversation, but it will slowly unfold into something warmer.

However, real life waits at the arrivals gate.

Once they land in the UK, the real story begins. You will get lost in the beautiful, colorful London and I think you will like it :) It’s simple, romantic, it has its pleasant moments but not becoming overwhelming.

Performances

I particularly enjoyed the actors. Haley Lu Richardson and Ben Hardy bring an authenticity to their roles that makes the chemistry look very true between them. I had not seen them in other movies, and their faces were so fresh for me!

And since much of the movie unfolds in the UK, you also get charming glimpses of London, soft light, familiar streets, and of course that British atmosphere that adds depth to the movie

Overall

The movie has a smooth flow. Its not hasty, nor slow. You could say that it moves the way falling in love often does.

The rating is currently at 6.8/10 and I would gladly rate it between 6 - 6.2

Final Thoughts

Love at First Sight is not the film that you will always remember, but it can and will make your smile and perhaps, it can make you believe in fate :)

And if you love romantic comedies, that’s reason enough to watch it.
