Western NAIDOC Ball Was A Great Success

The Western NAIDOC Ball hosted at the Lakeside Banquet & Convention Centre in Taylors Lakes once again brought together the growing Western Melbourne Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community along with all Australians for an unforgettable evening of celebration, pride and reflection.

NAIDOC Week, which stands for National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee is a time to recognise and honour the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Celebrated annually across Australia, NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to come together and show support for the oldest continuing culture in the world.

The Western NAIDOC Ball was a highlight of this year’s festivities, delivering a spectacular night of deadly entertainment, a delicious three course meal. Guests arrived dressed to the nines and were warmly welcomed into a culturally rich atmosphere, where joy, resilience and community spirit filled the room.

The Lakeside Banquet & Convention Centre, located conveniently on the Melton Highway in Taylors Lakes, proved to be an ideal venue. With all amenities located on the ground floor and no stair access required, the event ensured accessibility for all guests. For those travelling from Werribee and Melton, a complimentary coach bus service was available, helping community members come together without the stress of transport. This thoughtful inclusion made sure the event remained open and welcoming for everyone, particularly Elders and those needing support.

With a full house and every detail carefully considered from table arrangements to the delicious menu the night ran smoothly and left attendees with full hearts and plenty of memories. While the event was strictly for those 18 years and older the mature setting provided a safe and celebratory space for adults to connect, honour their roots and look forward to the future.

The Western NAIDOC Ball is more than just entertainment it units a community in shared pride and reflection. With Isaac Compton as the MC and the spirit of NAIDOC Week guiding the event it reminded us all why celebrating culture, history and survival matters.
