An Evening's Meal on Lygon St, the Heart of the Italian community in Australia

An Evening's Meal on Lygon St, the Heart of the Italian community in Australia

As we strolled down the lively Lygon Street in Carlton, Melbourne, our senses were immediately inundated by the rich aroma of Italian cuisine and the vibrant cultural atmosphere that defines this iconic neighborhood.

On this particular evening, we had the pleasure of dining at Piccolo Mondo a charming Italian restaurant owned by a dear friend who had recently triumphed over her battle with breast cancer.

We've dined at Piccolo Mondo many times before however, this time it felt like stepping into a warm embrace of tradition and resilience. The walls adorned with vintage photographs and rustic decor created an authentic Italian ambiance creating a memorable dining experience.

As we approached the owner, a dear friend of mine who also comes and trains with me in the gym as does his partner and brother in law saw us from a mile away and quickly came to greet us.

His wife was home with their 4 children having recently beaten breast cancer and blogging about her journey in a very raw and uncensored approach.

We spoke of her battle and how she was coping, the whole process is very isolating and exhausting. But they were very greatful to have gotten through although there is still a lot of work to ensure the cancer doesnt return.

The menu at Piccolo Mondo boasted a delightful array of traditional Italian dishes each crafted with precision and passion. From the perfectly cooked pasta dishes to the savory aromas of traditional Italian sauces and garnishes, every bite was a homage to the rich culinary heritage that defines Italian cuisine.

Our taste buds embarked on a journey through the flavors of Italy, I opted for a Rib Eye steak with an Italian peppers and caramelised onion sauce.

Little bloke and little Miss opted for fish and chips while my partner also opted for the Rib Eye with a mushroom gravey sauce.

Mine cooked rare and hers overkilled by having it well done. I always cringe as a fine beef cut should always be eaten rare.

The sense of community in Lygon Street, Melbourne's Italian cultural hub further enriched our experience. Passersby engaged in lively conversations and the aroma of espresso wafted through the air as we reveled in the genuine warmth of this tight-knit community

Lygon Street is Melbourne's go to place for traditional Italian culture and good with most Italian families who migrated to Australia in the 1950s settled in Carlton and established a little Italy.

Our dinner at Piccolo Mondo in the heart of Melbourne's Italian cultural area was and always is a remarkable experience that provides and entirely different experience to dining outing.

It was a celebration of life, resilience, and the enduring spirit of a community that cherishes its cultural heritage. Piccolo Mondo not only served us great Italian dishes but also became a symbol of triumph and the unbreakable bonds forged through shared experiences.

The delicacies shared are yummy. I can perceive the aroma from here. Haha. Thanks for sharing this with us.

I have a friend who’s mum died of breast cancer so I always give kudos to people who were able to fight and survive. It cost them so much to stay alive so those people should be celebrated
