YOGYA TRAVELOGUE: Visiting Vredeburg Fort

IMG_20250219_170447.jpg

Hello, travel lovers …

What you can't miss when visiting Yogya is visiting historical places such as the Vredeburg Fort Museum. I put the list of visiting this fort on the first day when I arrived in Yogya. Luckily I chose a lodging around Malioboro while the distance from Malioboro to this fort is only about two kilometers.

Of course I prefer to walk from the lodging. Besides because for me two kilometers is a short distance, also because along the way from the Malioboro pedestrian to the location there are many interesting places, such as: the legendary Beringharjo market, or many more.

I left the lodging after breakfast. It was done on purpose so that I could be satisfied walking around the Vredeburg Fort Museum. The operating hours of the Vredeburg Fort Museum are Monday-Thursday from 08.00am-08.00pm. While for the weekend Friday-Sunday it is open from 08.00am-10.00pm.

As for the ticket price, because I visited on the weekend, the rate I had to pay was 20,000 rupiah. If it was a weekday, I would only pay 15,000 rupiah. After getting a ticket at the ticket machine, I would then go through an automatic scanner machine that was beautiful turquoise.

After that, I could see the magnificent entrance to the fort. The building, which is all white, has thick walls like most forts. Also, because this is a fort, of course this fort is surrounded by a wide moat. Of course, during the war, the moat around this fort was to prevent enemy troops from approaching or entering the fort area.

Passing through the main gate of the fort, visitors will see an inauguration plaque from the Department of Education and Culture, Directorate General of Culture on October 28, 1998. by Prof. Dr. Edi Sedyawati.

Once inside, visitors will see buildings on the right and left sides that are used for dioramas that tell stories from the pre-independence era to influential heroic figures since that time. In addition to dioramas, some other rooms are used as cafes, or as offices for employees who work at the museum.

This museum is well maintained. In addition to toilets, prayer rooms, souvenir shops and there is also a place for children to play. Also, at the back, there is a playground space that is only limited to a maximum age of 3 years. Inside the playground there is a small slide, a small mountain in the middle of which there is a hallway for children to play, and a seesaw that fits four children and also a pair of swings. Everything is well designed and with bright colors that are fun for children.

In addition to the dioramas, visitors will also see a display of cannons that may have been from the colonial era.

You can also walk around looking at the architecture of the entire fort which is very sturdy and makes us feel like we are going back to the past. I also lingered here, because coincidentally, when I visited there was a performance by a group of disabled children. I was happy to watch their skills, I liked the inclusive aroma that wafted throughout Vredeburh Fort.

I forgot something, at the back, there is also a VREDEBURG sign where visitors will take pictures in this area for souvenirs. After relaxing for about an hour, I finally decided to go out because I had to go to the next place. Thank you for reading my travelogue to Yogya this time. See you.
